Just hired a new appliance cabinets and mill-work super and he only knows about one of those departments and got hired from MST. Why would they not hire a more qualified person for the job?

They want the lowest payed people possible ,just through a low wage ,low skilled person out there .
At least he knew something about ONE of his new departments. At Store 1901 we had a promoted Dept. Super who did not know anything about either of her departments and was not willing to learn. She walked around with a clipboard all day and pretended to work on markdown reports. Finally it got to be too much and store management moved her to a, let's say, "less-demanding" position. That's what happens under the new, corporate-run HR operation.
If you work hard as a manager I got your back if you don’t burn baby burn
You can know everything there is to know about a product, and not be able to teach it. You can know everything there is to know about a system, and not be able to motivate someone to use it. You can be able to do everything in a department, but not be able to lead others to do it as well as you do.
That is the difference between a worker and a manager. It is a knowledge set all by itself, and I might add, much harder to learn than mere product or systems. Accept it and advance, or deny it and stay where you are. I advise finding a mentor to show you how to lead, and the rest will take care of itself.
So you don’t need product or industry knowledge?!?! Let’s see how many KITCHENS can get refunded because someone stuck a cashier in Cabinets and said, “You’re a kitchen designer”!

You don’t have to know product to manage people. That knowledge will come with time. That’s no different in saying someone shouldn’t be hired as a cashier with no cashier experience. Yet they know how to do basic math. Sounds like someone was passed up due to their child like attitude
They want cheap sheep.
Because there aren’t any qualified applicants applying right now.
Because then they’d have to pay the person with experience more money.
Get the nose brown
It is what they do here at Lowes, They hire Managers that have no experience. It is not what you know, it is who you know
