You're in the middle of an unprecedented pandemic, you are having good sales and performing well as a company, why layoff people and ruin their lives right now?
The market is horrible right now for jobs.
We all really know what #thisisthatplace means now.
Also, this layoff had nothing to do with company performance and everything to do with corporate greed. People need to start boycotting this company that treats its employees as disposable peasants.

Walmart is helping these folks find jobs in the Company and is doing well because they really treat their employees well I have experienced it 1st hand
They just dropped the "Em"...Walmart is a trash company run by trash leadership.
I would never wish a layoff on anyone – but the news sources have been stating that the folks now going through these layoffs are doing so after putting their health on the line working during the pandemic – this could not be further from the truth. The folks involved in these layoffs are from the Corporate Office – the same folks who all worked from home during the pandemic. The real folks putting everything at risk are at the store level – and making an average of $11.00 an hour. Working during this pandemic for Walmart has been a real eye opener for me – and I can truly say that Corporate and Management do not care one bit about the employee. The main concern is liability and optics within the community. That's it. My heart goes out to everyone involved – but if you are a seasoned employee, you should not be surprised by this.
People are getting laid off right now at big companies and getting a week severance for every year of service, so leaving with just a few weeks pay, and Walmart is sending people away with six months of salary and bonuses, which will cover them for several months more. It could be a HELL of a lot worse. I get it, everyone wants companies to keep everyone employed, but that's not reality.
I am not a defender of big companies, but if you are complaining about 6+ months of severance and a bonus, it's going to fall on deaf ears with many who didn't get a fraction of that.
The stock price is up and the major shareholders are due record dividends this year. That's the bottom line now. They thought the 300/150 bonus would be enough to appease the little people. To top it off they raised the sales and profit goals mid pandemic to assure that we would NOT get max bonuses. Nice people aren't they.
You’re right. “This is that place” means this is the place of yearly layoffs for all lines of business. Last year they “displaced” 40% of their senior pharmacy staff
This will continue as long as associates keep putting up with this cr@p. Wake up!! Enough is enough!! This has been going on for years under the current CEO.
They don’t value your skills, talent or loyalty, you are just cattle to them. It’s been heartbreaking to see so many hard working and talented friends get f@cked due to greed and incompetence, but this is a new low indeed! In the middle of a pandemic when sales are soaring.. really?? Wtf!!
They will only respect you when people start leaving in masses disrupting their operation and pockets...
Walmart has been net hiring. Every unlikable unproductive person a hiring manager lays off means a req is open for one they might like better or produces more. The lesson you should get from this is you should s-ck up early and often to the people with the power to fire you, and try to get skills where you are always valued. Retail employees have been considered interchangeable parts for a long long time, and if you're a good manager, that's the way it has to be, because if a single person getting sick grinds everything to a halt, you're a c-appy manager.
