Thread regarding Cisco Systems Inc. layoffs

Ready for 25% pay cut without layoff

I’m ready for a 25% paycut.. as we know many engineers are paid high. It’s ok to take paycut rather than job cut?

Totally Agree.
Also progressive pay-cut per level.

My wife makes far far less than any of her peers (only female in group), so cutting pay when she is already vastly underpaid would be "interesting." I know most here don't want to hear this.... I'm not a "social justice warrior" type. But gender pay differentials exist in many areas. Maybe they need to do another adjustment. She is being pursued by Amazon (AWS) so probably just going to leave. She's fearful of demanding pay raises due to constant layoffs.

You need to push for it. Sell yourself, show how you’re worth it and make it known you won’t sit and take it anymore. I’ve done that several times in my career at cisco. Once I got ignored, and the other times I was given significant raises.
All comes down to how much your leader values your contribution.

Is it possible for an employee not to get pay raise for 6-7 years in spite of meeting individual performance factor = 1 ?
Doesn’t the HR take a look into it and escalate it ?

They claim to do periodic salary reviews and make adjustments, but if you're close or at the median for your pay grade, there's no reason to give you a raise. Without a promotion, the only time they give pay raises is when the new hires start coming in a higher rates because Cisco can't attract talent (such as it may be) and the newer people start making more than their peers who've been in that role a while. You either hope for a salary review to normalize your pay or you switch roles or leave and come back.

Same with contracting with Cisco. They never adjust the rate for red badges that renew year after year on statement of work contracts (SOW). You have to quit and come back to bring your rate back up to whatever the new normal rate is after 5+ years.

Pay cuts are already implemented at few companies in the Bay Area. Nothing wrong with if it can save few thousand jobs for a year or two.
Problem is that there is no compassion in the industry for the last 20 years. Outsourcing companies have taken over like leeches. They will try to justify cost savings and outsource more jobs. They go hand in hand with whole corrupt system.

I want a 25% pay increase instead as I have not had a raise in 7 years.

You think Cisco laysoff because of salary? We have $50B in the bank and give executives $20M sign-on bonuses. It's about keeping employee numbers down for wall street. Remember Cisco buys companies all the time but ELT wants to keep headcount at same level. It's also used to get rid of dissenters. GO ahead and try it. Tell your boss you disagree with how he/she is running the group and how the ELT is running the company and enjoy your package.
