They laid off people that were hired only a few weeks ago. This had to be in the works for months. They should have had a hiring freeze in place so people wouldn't have disrupted their lives only to get their walking papers. This is why anyone who drinks corporate Kool-aid if foolish. Companies like WM don't give a rats a$$ about you at the end of the day so always do what's in your best interest. I'll bet the Bentonville faithful that don't have many employment options get taken advantage of. I'll give them some credit for at least giving the 6 months.........

Is there any impact on finance and accounting?

Started in February 2008; etched in my mind forever. Like “Grim Reaper” cutting through teams. Following year same thing. Afterwards was toned down in numbers but happened more often. We used to have some warning (people talking, office buzzing with news.) Now nothing. Just surprise call or meeting. Makes everyone feel edgy, unproductive and detached from work until things settle. Not good for associate loyalty and productivity. Understand company has a job to do but wish they would consider the impact on the business and their associates. Maybe make cuts by area during certain times of year to ease anxiety.

Walmart s***s big time. They are the most incompently managed company I’ve ever worked for. They’ll waste millions on stupid stuff, bean count on stuff that needs investment, and then turn around and treat employees like trash. This ship is sinking. I secretly hope to get a severance notice.

Does anyone know if the department handling store remodels was effected?
I think they use the software called Pulse

This has been going on with Walmart on a fairly regular cadence since 2009’ish. Have a back up plan because you never know when your number will be up. Better yet, start looking for something else anyhow and give yourself time to find something better and leave on your own 🤷‍♂️ It’s 10 years later now, no one should be surprised or hit unexpectedly by this. It s—s and is terrible, but it’s definitely no longer a surprise.

Brand new Product orgs that were started this year in Customer/Merch/Ops/etc. all got hit today as well. 75% or more of the orgs were laid off. 100s of people.

So sorry to hear this. Best of luck to everyone affected. I also have a question. Does anyone have any information on Market Managers being affected by layoffs and also Department managers? Our MM seems to be in a really bad mood or having a lot of stress related issues due to rumors of job loss. Any info will be appreciated. Thanks

How the once mighty have fallen. I remember 12-14 yrs ago wm was poised to conquor the whole world, for real. They were on their way, man. Had tendrils extended into Europe and were trying to bust out all over Asia. They were building stores here at the rate of, what, 3 per WEEK at one point. Many of these are sitting empty now.

They have started with logistics this morning. They have already hit Bentonville and will be hitting West coast offices after 8am West coast time. Don't know how big it will be but they are happening. Hopefully the package is good.
