Most JCP stores are located in malls. malls are a thing of the past, plain and simple, slapping the Belk name on a dying relic is not gonna help.

Well, Belk has tons of useless coupons and they keep offering $100 gift cards for $80 so maybe it’s a good match.
JC Penney stores are mostly located in decaying malls, this makes absolutely no sense, Helen Keller can see this is going to fail. I think Sycamore WANTS the business to fail so they can file bankruptcy and still walk away with a huge bonus.

The Sycamore thing doesn't seem to have a clue about retail, but maybe they know d–gs or human trafficking and are desperate to throw the Federales (or anyone they've stiffed) off their trail by appearing to take on huge losses?
No matter what obvious blunders the company makes, the Big Cheeses do always seem to ride high on the cracker with large bonuses.
Who knows what other pies they have their privately owned, sticky little fingers in?

This merger is weird. Belk doesn't have much brand recognition outside of the southeast US...yet Sycamore is somehow going to scale the brand up to complete with Macy's nationally? In a time when department stores are shrinking?
JCP and Belk are also mismatched concepts. Belk is a bit more upscale...the prices are higher and Belk has a vast array of cosmetics. I can't imagine the core JCP shopper (price sensitive, coupon focused) getting excited about Belk.
And how much upside is there in opening more Belk locations? Again, this brand has limited recognition. I guess Macy's isn't as bad off as I thought.
