CPWM just laid off all Department Heads and select Supervisors based on their store volume 7/27/20. Title changes for General Managers changed to Store Manager and Supervisors to Assistant Managers. Stores will only be hiring part-time associates going forward. Head count in most locations decreased by 50%!

There is nothing at CPWM that you cannot find at a better price at any of the grocery stores in the Chicago area. Trust me on this- I wasted two years working CPWM before moving on
CPWM is Cost Plus World Market which BB&B is now trying to sell off along with Christmas Tree Shops. They have already sold off Personalization Mall and One Kings Lane (furniture). Looks like they are trying to get back to just being BB& B, Buybuy Baby and Harmon. Back to the basics. Please take note that Target, Walmart, Best Buy and others are now going to be closed on Thanksgiving Day. There is also a movement by those companies to start the holiday season earlier with specials in October to reduce the number of shoppers in the stores during the holiday rush. It would be nice if our customers would shop early also. I know it will seem like the holiday season will be forever this year but we need to be safe along with the customers and don't need large crowds in our stores at one time. I for one would like to be able to spend some time with my family and not be in a locked down state for the Holidays.
What is CPWM?
Lowering the operating costs right before they sell it off.
Hmm. When they did the layoff this past March, they laid off most gourmet department and beverage department heads along with POS. Seems the only thing that they would have had left were Home Department heads.
I looked at job openings on the web site about a week ago and a lot of locations were looking for Home Department heads so I guess those positions have been taken off of the table. I went shopping at one of my local CPWM stores and I did notice that they had a sign out stating that they were hiring part time help.
Some time last month CPWM did an Instagram post stating that they were going to be creating a D&I committee out of corporate. Wonder if they will be moving forward with that.
Th way are trying to improve margins. Best way to do that is through payroll costs.
they r selling off cpwm and cts anyway so they dont care what they do before its sold
