Thread regarding Belk layoffs

STM’s /HR on chopping block after holiday season, Store managers take on more duties

A very good source at corporate said that small doors will have a store manager, stm, and lead
Key carrier, medium doors will have a store manager, stm, and two lead key carriers, and large doors will have a store manager, two STM’s and two leaf key carriers. What’s the catch? The store manager will now have to work weekends and 50 hours (instead of 45) including saturdays and sundays, the STM’s will be required to work 50 hours instead of 45, and hourly key carriers will work 32 hours. Also, store HR may be dissolved. the store manager will take over all HR duties including payroll and scheduling. How will they determine who is let go? They say it’s random but it’s not. Any stagnant STM’s who have not moved from store and who cannot relocate , and STM’s hired before Sycamore took over will be the first to go. another problem is it will be difficult hiring lead key carriers at what Belk wants to pay $13/hr. this is set to take place in early 2021. Have to wait and see.

Hmmmm? I worked 60++ hours a week. 6 days...always. Took every fith or six weekend off.
Had 3 ASMs as were called then. No key carriers except receiving mgr.. The few key carriers I had o'er the years either let the job go to their head or wouldn't make any decisions.

For those of you who know what it means...my last store did over $225 sq ft.. Busy! Profitable. Yet still neglected as a small store in favor of the dazzling flagships the Belks and division chairs were enamoured with. Belk was always Macy's wannabes...but actually on par with TJMx.

A very few more weeks...till store closings are held off till the new year, 2021. Syc choosing to ride out and sell down thru holidays.

Hang in, hang out, or get out...the choice is yours. Don't let it be theirs.

Basically a “key carrier” is someone doing an STM’s job without the pay. good luck trying to find dependable workers at that low pay.

Most of the managers at the store I work at are doing fulfillment and are not "managers "anymore.
