I don't know, management's mantra at the start of all this was "we're all in this together" so I'm sure they have our best interests in mind.
To the previous poster, that’s not what happened at Collins. Sure some middle of the road people will get it, but they’re going after older folk. They don’t care.
"I feel bad about any layoffs but the guys that were there 30-40+ yrs, what the hell were you waiting for to leave? Those VSP's that were being offered as of late were for a reason."
They'll get to stay now so there won't be accusations of ageism...and the rest of us will pay the price.
I agree with the previous poster. Older workers are a target, always have been. Some of the older people Had maybe 10 years max, should’ve taken that package.
I feel bad about any layoffs but the guys that were there 30-40+ yrs, what the hell were you waiting for to leave? Those VSP's that were being offered as of late were for a reason. It was or has been a clear indicator of what was to come... honestly covid or not. They've been wanting to thin that section of the herd for a long time now.
I used to work for PW. The sad part is it took you guys this long to figure out that Pratt has always been this way. Once you hit 50 and are making good money you are a target, they don't care. It doesn't matter if you were born in the front lobby and you've worked 65 hrs a week for the last 100 yrs. IT DOES NOT MATTER! The all the backstabbing and politics going on i ran as fast as I could for the hills years ago. Someone told me a story about Pratt EH that happened back in the 80's or 90's. Around August or September in that year, Pratt scored a big contract. Everyone was so happy that it was actually announced on the loudspeaker and everyone was jumping up, clapping their hands in excitement. The next few weeks/months folks went out and bought new cars, new houses, etc. Something happened in where Pratt hit a snag and that same year right before Xmas break they started laying off many people... imagine that... Pratt was kicking the can down the road and struggling before covid hit... like last year. We were always in the red and asking suppliers to defer millions of dollars each quarter. You guys should of left years ago or took one of these separation packages that they've offered as of late. I know many guys who took that package last November... they knew any senior people have been a target for at least the last 5-7 yrs.
Haven’t heard of anyone getting laid off as of today. Layoffs are typically at the end of pay period (Monday)?
PS - the longer you have worked for “the company” and the higher your salary, the more you have to worry about. Both Canada, Riverside, Foley and Chula Vista targeted a disproportionate amount of dedicated employees, with years of service. One day your sweating blood to keep the company competitive and then the next day you are gone. Doesn’t matter if you have had excellent performance reviews. If you’ve been with the company numerous years and your making a great salary (unless your part of Sr. Management) consider yourself a target for the sh–ty management team.
Thank you! I see what you mean by RUTHLESS! Appreciate the "heads up". If this is what Pratt and Whitney is in for the only term I have is poggum.
Maybe it’s different at Pratt then at Collins. We were allowed to log in and remained clueless until we started receiving calls at home around 7-9 am. Computers were not shutdown until about and hour later. I agree it would be a sh–ty move on 9/11 but the company has been executing a lot of sh–ty moves. It’s great to suggest remaining optimistic but I’d plan for the worst having been through it myself. Read the thread on the Canada Collins layoffs. Ruthless.
They would have already executed it early this morning. The chosen individuals would not have been able to log into computers first thing this morning. Whether teleworking or from the shop floor. 911 no. It would be negative publicity. Keep positive it is not worth the effort to ponder. There is something much brighter around the bend for the "5,000"! It us the wait that isn't going to well for any of us but we will survive it if we stand strong.
I haven't seen anything yet. Is there an announcement? What group was affected?
Especially from a defense contractor that always talks about how we’re defending freedom.
