Thread regarding Noble Energy Inc. layoffs

Is it just me or is working at Noble getting more stressful on daily bases?

No job security, managers taking out their own frustration on us, work environment that's more toxic than ever, morale hitting a new low... Is there ever going to be a time when things will once again start to look up? Because I'm not sure how much more of this I can take.

I would not be working hard if I was you. Once the acquisition is done Chevron will release 85% of the office staff. You’re odds are bleak so why kiss a–. You’re working from home. Live a lot.

Things started sliding down hill fast after 2015. Pay and promotion Freezes. Paranoia about the next layoff. Employees openly trash talking directors and VPs in meetings. People quitting left and right. Ridiculous BD deals. No real direction or leadership with management putting all the burden on employees and saying we need to fix our attitudes.

I was just thinking the same exact thing as the first poster. The environment is more toxic than ever...Noble employees are desperate to keep their jobs until the merger is complete and after. Its learned behavior though. The way Noble treats its employees once hired in is abhorrent. No raises, no promotions..people doing desperate things to get some glimmer of approval from managers...all Noble really does is feed us fattening lunches every so often and throw bags of candy on the catering counter.

My advice is to focus on doing your job and ignore the drama as much as possible. Don't succumb to any management or peer pressure to work long hours. Not worth it and will not pay off. Use any free time to update your resume or network around. You should also be contingency planning on a job outside the oilfield.

Paraphrasing here, but is there a saying something along the lines of “you learn a lot about a person when times are rough”? Unfortunately these hard times are exposing a lot about Noble’s culture, and particularly management.

Just hold out for that severance. Just gotta make it to oct.

It is unlikely that the situation will improve.

There are no easy answers. I recommend choosing your health and well-being if you have enough money to sustain things for awhile.

Good luck.
