How in the heck is the company telling multi year full time outfitters/managers they can’t get bonuses/review pay increases for the entire year because of Covid, but turn around and hand out $1000 retention bonuses to new employees day 1. I’m in the damn twilight zone.

Don't worry about that retention bonus. It's just a carrot on a stick. They'll all be let go or quit before they fulfill their time commitment for that thousand bucks.
E-commerce? Yeah, that'll work out fine. If this is how they make their profit, good luck. I don't know if they have anything really proprietary that can be shipped FedEX.
It’s all part of retail game ,,out with the old long term employees in with new one with no experience in retail pay them less and hire more p/t . Getting rid of full timers by giving them more work on there plate and forcing them to quit. .,
E-commerce is the next phase in retail , I worked for Walmart 18+ , trained a p/t that later took over my position with a new title Key Carrier Less pay and my position was no longer needed in Walmart.
Doesn’t this sound familiar in our stores now Bass Pro / Cabelas. Hiring to many p/t that we are training to take over our jobs...
I’ve been in this rollercoaster Ride before and it’s happening here at our stores.
It’s not anymore based on family values and taking care of employees and employees will take care of the stores . Like Mr. Sam Walton or Johny Morris used to think , it’s just new investors that are like modern day vampires
Getting the best of all of us to make more profit for them . I am almost retired so I really don’t have any debts to pay...so I am ok...
But I say to you , new in retail , we are all replaceable, ...So either , stay working in Bass Pro /Cabelas an do the best you can , put a high value in your work and yourself because you are worth more and let the change come we can survive out there., Best of luck to everyone. They are hiring absolute mo–ns at a lower pay and giving a $1000 dollar bonus to make it seem like a better deal. They don’t need you anymore. Get ready for stores to start laying off 5-10 employees before the holidays to build cheaper e-commerce teams.
Because ECommerce is what’s driving the business. They already got their value out of stores now have to shift their attention to the distribution team. What better way to keep them at bay than a little bonus cash. Sorry store teams you are replaceable.
