Companies exist to make money, not to provide jobs.

Not any more, they’ve all signed the business roundtable now. Now companies have “stakeholders” (freeloaders) along as equal partners.

... It sure seems like the lot of them believe they are too valuable for Cisco to lay them off, and therefore are not taking the package. ...

Boy are they going to get a rude awakening in Oct. Bean counters only care about costs. They'll find someone cheaper to do your "valuable" job. So the new person will take some time to ramp up and figure it out. Who cares? The cost of temporary delays due to ramp up is offset by the cheaper wages over the long run, or so the bean counters think.

If they cared about corporate knowledge of how things work and how to keep it running, they wouldn't be letting people over 50 with 10+ years at Cisco go during LRs, but they let them go every year. As far as the bean counters are concerned, the company didn't come to an end after all the previous LR's of people with 10+ years with Cisco, so no one is too valuable.

I am not eligible Based on location, so it’s a moot point. But I believe I am too valuable to be laid off, but that doesn’t mean they won’t do it.

I used to work for Cisco and have many friends there who are eligible for the ER. It sure seems like the lot of them believe they are too valuable for Cisco to lay them off, and therefore are not taking the package. I sure hope they are reading the tea leaves correctly.

People will be reminded about not taking the offer when the LR comes. People are assuming it will be like before. They are going to be shocked when it is less than half or even just 30-days. The favor is on Cisco's side with the extra money for unemployment. They are better off NOT paying severance. It will be more cost effective on them to agree that you qualify for unemployment.

there are takers if you're not in San Jose.
Not everyone that met criteria was offered ER.

They should have doubled or more the package then more than a few would have taken it. It's just a pitiful offering if they're serious about using this to downsize some folks. So next step is the do so in a more involuntary way. Sad.

I think the bean counters are realizing that people are not so excited to take c-ap deals. Go figure.

They really should have gotten Real World feedback first. 2 cents.
