I work for SF, we aren’t having major layoffs right now. We had them, department by department, from 2016-2019. We went from 71k to 58k employees.

The local offices you are talking about have been planned and communicated for a few years, as we consolidate to headquarters and the massive new hubs we’ve built in ATL, Dallas and PHX.

SF doesn’t do company wide layoffs, do it at the department level. First they announce a study, which lasts 9+ months where they review current org structure and then design what is needed in the future. Then they report back to the employees and invoke a transition plan. That can take several months to interview and determine who goes where. Then you get a QTD date if you don’t have a job, which means you get 3-5 months heads up before your last day.
