Thread regarding Bed Bath & Beyond layoffs

The laid off list

Funny how you get the list on who has supposed to be let go in your email with your severance Info, but what is more messed up is how an asm that was on the list to get laid off was not let go but another was... 🤔

Sigh....... be real. Take a look at this website and all that goes on here. People post everything here. Do you really believe that if 4 week to 6 months ago, whenever this was all put in motion, that not one person would have heard about it or posted it if 500+ store managers were in the loop??? They posted information right after the Monday conference call. And you think that they all had a say in what happened??? 🤣🤣🤣

To Just Think logically..in many or most places there is direct input from the SM, Supervisor etc. However if positions are eliminated across the board then they would not need their input. IE: if every freight manager position was gone in every store they would not have to go to store level.

That’s exactly what happened to me. Another person was listed as being let go but I was the only they actually let go. I was told oops it was a typo.

Just think logically about this... the decision had to be made by people outside of the store. Bbb is so afraid of getting sued all the time but they need to cross their t’s and dot their i’s in order to have legal ground to stand on as far as who they laid off. That’s why you get a breakdown of the ages of the people let go. If a store manager had input that would give the opportunity of favoritism being involved....

They absolutely had a say. The last thing I heard my SM say to OPS MGR was they needed to talk and go over the redundancy list before end of the day.

There were some exceptions. They had little time to request it but it could happen. They were made if a lay off could appear to have a profiling aspect (like the one person saved was the youngest Vs all others were in an older age group). Or A common one- an ASM was on the bench to be an SM. There were some swaps that could have been made. Another common one was saving someone because the store didn’t have enough key holders.

I am a previous BBB SM. Trust me when I say that we had 0 input in any of the layoffs. I was there with the first major layoff in the northeast (2017). I felt terrible and there was nothing at all I could do about it. I cared about everyone that worked for me managers and associates alike. Unfortunately when u have a call on a Monday and they tell you that on Thursday you have to let people go, you have to.... it’s awful but the decision was made without you weeks before if not months...... good luck everyone that was let go I feel for you all but just remember that BBB isn’t great anymore.

Same for the list at my store. In order to save one from the list another ft had to go. That’s what DM said There had to have been somewhat of a say so.

I was told thar store managers had no say.. but why they they keep an asm that was on the list? Bc they are involved in special projects sounds like BS to me

Did the store managers/DM not have any say in the matter? Was it really just a list from corporate with peoples names?
