Thread regarding Bed Bath & Beyond layoffs

False hope

As someone that follows the retail industry and as an outsider, why did BBBY even call back most of the people that were on furlough only to pull the rug out from under them? This list of associates they let go didn’t magically appear within the last week or so. This list was in the works for a few months. Will they be around 2-5 years from now?🤔

BBBY IT and QA jobs are now going to their Indian company, IDC. So they been laying off us IT people for over a year and hiring more and more people at the IDC. I'm glad I'm gone now!

Privately I am thinking:

Mark Tritons video said that this process was started in February. He knew who was going to be let go before Covid He LOST ALL CREDIBILITY by bringing people back to let them go.

His decision to close the customer service centers was a disaster! Customers are flooding the stores to get things fixed because HE LOST ALL CREDIBILITY in service when the customers can not get product delivered or questions answered

He mentioned reinvesting in people. He LOST ALL CREDIBILITY when let this many people go at once out of the stores. And having everyone left to take PAY CUTS.

His reputation is shot. The people, place, product etc needed to be ready and working if this was the plan. The customers won’t be likely to give us a chance when the holidays get here. He is counting on the stores being back together and in better than ever shape by then. How?

Store managers are left in fear of how they can get anything done. Anyone left is wondering the same. How can the company hire quality new hires fast enough? The wage rate is less than any other retailer around. High school and college students are already the majority of our associates.

Out loud to corporate HR, DM and SM you have to say how much the company has to look forward to. That’s BS but anything else makes for bigger trouble.

I can somewhat confirm this wasn't as rapid of a decision as they were making it out to be, at the end of my emailed severance contract it shows the job titles and ages of everyone who was a possibility of being cut. My age is wrong, I just had a birthday a few weeks ago. That means this list is NOT recent!

I got laid off 2 days ago. I worked in a A column store. Two floors. Enormous! Plus we are a regional fulfillment store. They are down now to two ASMs and two supervisors. The quality of customer service is “ horrible”!!! Most of the freight comes as transfers from closed stores. Two years ago there were 5 ASMs and 4 sups. They literally were working us to death!!!!! It had become a very toxic environment.

BBB and all its owned companies were in the shi$$er before covid 19 its just a way for them to think they have something to blame but themselves for sinking the company

its a sinking ship, the whole family of BBB stores, selling off CTS and CPWM, closing so many BBB stores and mass layoffs, people arent paying attention to whats happening

I know a lot of people are saying covid has put BBB into this position, but the reality is that it was happening regardless. Covid isn't the reason they laid off 2800 people. They were already working on it. It just gave them something to blame so you wouldn't be so angry.
