Thread regarding Bed Bath & Beyond layoffs

Good luck everyone

I’m an SM. Getting ready for work this morning and absolutely dreading what I have been asked to do today. Please know that there are many of us who care deeply about the associates who work in our stores. My store, for one, is like a close knit family with many associates who have been with me for years. Today I’m angry, sad and anxious about what is about to happen. You all deserve better. Just know that these decisions have nothing to do with your performance or worth - these are strictly economic decisions designed to save a dying company.

The silver lining is that many of you will find that there is in fact life after Bed Bath and Beyond. You’ll find new and better positions. Things will be better.

I wish nothing but the best to everyone - those who are moving today and those who stay.

Bs. You sit in your office and overwork good people and collect bonuses. Tomorrow you won’t remember them..hopefully because you will be busy learning what work is.

Please stop using the word "family". I know you are using it with good intentions but you can't fire your family. It's a team with unified goals but never a family.

FT got laid off today. SM said I get a week of severance for each year of service. We started the day with 9 FT, that will be down to 4 by the end of the day.

I thought the company had really handled the pandemic pretty well, all things considered, but laying off thousands of full-time employees across the country now reeks of desperation and seems ill-advised at best. There's no way you're going to run an A/B level Store with only three full-time regular employees and three or four managers on staff.

Last week, one of my co-workers asked me what I thought the chances were of our company still being around by Christmas and I just shrugged. Right now, after this, I'm going to say I think it's pretty slim.

Any word of how many ft workers are going to stay for an A volume store? The store I work in have over 10 full time workers...

I was one of the full-timers let go today. SM told me I would be getting a call from HRSC within the next day. They would be going into detail about the severance and it was based on number of years of service. Also, I'd be getting my earned PTO paid out. I think that varies state by state. That's the only thing my SM knew about the financials. The store lost at least 2 FT and 1 ASM.

The store associates, from Store Manager on down, are the life blood of the store. We are directly responsible for sales and customer service. Without us there would be no store!! So I'm puzzled as to why they would take money from the people that do all the work! It's not the DM's, the district support staff, HR, LP, the CEO....it's US!!!

No severance for full-timers, but I heard if a store is over in full-timers, some of you will be termed, then you have to wait a week to be rehired, but only as a part-timer!!!

Is it a lump sum severance or paid out over weeks? And when do you get it?

I'm off today and received the call......24 yrs with the company. Salaried up until last year, then hourly for a little over a year. I think about all the years I worked extra and was never paid....it really pisses me off!! Now demoted to a Department Supervisor and they are taking 5 hours per week from me....complete B.S.

The only way to go from here is up. Keep your head. This company stopped caring about you long ago, so don't let it hurt you.

Yes, anyone impacted by today’s events should be receiving a phone call if not working today.
