I worked at Allstate staff counsel office and they made attorneys sit in cubicles. No more offices. It’s the cheap type of cubicles, too. Not the type with high divider walls. Instead of admitting that it was part of cost cutting, they pitched the whole open space workplace and how it’s their new corporate model. This was before Covid so I am sure Allstate is probably just having the attorneys work from home permanently so they can get rid of even more office space and cubicles to cut costs.
Health insurance benefits s—ed for being from such a big organization. Allstate also did not pay for employee’s life insurance premiums, at least for newer hires. You get less paid holidays. No day off after 4th of July etc. if the holiday falls on a Thursday. Lower 401k employer contribution % than other insurance companies and no immediate vesting in 401k employer contribution. Just seemingly innocuous cost cuts here and there to save money. Yet they will spend thousands on expert witnesses and other litigation costs to deny claims that they should just pay instead of nickle and diming the claimants.
Allstate also moved the BI liability claims department entirely out of CA to AZ and claims docs were processed in India to cut costs. I remember the adjusters were given the choice to move to AZ to keep their jobs or quit if they can’t move. Some people just can’t pick up and move because their spouses can’t quit their jobs in CA or they have family and roots in CA.
I worked at Allstate due to its reputable name in the insurance industry, but felt like the company did not treat its employees with graduate degrees with respect or dignity. Glad I sensed the dysfunction within management and left long before the layoffs.
Sincere hope you all find a new direction and regain your dignity.
