@4yrz+169qpP0r - Thank you. I wanted to say something similar, but ended up deleting it and ignoring the comment.

I've been at Cisco 3 times now. First time was just like you said, "We'll convert you after a year." I was actually told by the manager that if I wasn't interested in converting, he would not bring me on as a contractor. Just as they started the conversion, Cisco entered a hiring freeze and it got delayed by another year. Second time, it was 1 quarter before the next fiscal year. I was told I'd be converted at the start of the next FY if they got the employee req approved, otherwise it would be the following FY, which it was. Now I'm waiting for an employee req again, but this time it wasn't mentioned as a possibility during the interviews, but I knew getting my foot in the door again would give me an opportunity to find a spot even if it wasn't on my current team.

re "OMG! Contractors?!!?" - Firstly, that's a terribly unsympathetic response. Hope you end up on an LR list yourself. Secondly, Cisco are the ones heavily pushing to have staff on a Red Badge basis. In many cases have made false promises to people. "Come on board as a Red badge and we'll convert you with 12 months". Red badge may be slightly better paid (highly debatable), but also carries huge uncertainty with it.

Contractors don't contract covid19, is that true?

Cute. Make a comment like that at the next Cisco Check-in and a red badge will be filling your spot. :-)

Here's an idea...get an FTE position and stop your complaining.

Most hiring at Cisco is via contractor conversion. They get a bunch of red badges, keep the best of the bunch, and then after an LR, they convert the red badges they kept to replace the employees at a lower rate and bring in more red badges. Wash, rinse & repeat.

"All those contractor jobs in IT being off-shored. Cisco can get 4 off shore dudes to replace 1 on shore dude. Why buy the cow when you can get the milk for free?"

Cause the talent offshore is usually worse. That being said, the price difference between California wages and India wages helps

Not sure of the global number, but I know that we've lost (and continue to lose) more than half of our red badges in Global Infrastructure.

Can't speak to 60% in IT, but I know of 2 let go in Eng IT last week. Not hearing of anyone hiring here.

Based on what? How do you know that? Where’s the proof? Tired of people making unfounded accusations and spreading rumors.
