Thread regarding IBM layoffs

Hiring! IBM wants mainframe, DBMS and UNIX specialists! How to get skilled in these?

During mid-July, US Tech major IBM had close to 200 positions open in India and 33 percent were for
these legacy skills.

Hmmmm. . .Big Blew is looking to hire lots of legacy skills in India shortly after a massive RA? There are no coincidences.

You don't. Find a company that doesn't treat their employees like disposable napkins.

Bandwidth is cheap. I can see IBM hiring folks in India, but I don’t see any fortune 1000 customer allowing their data to go off shore. Unix is quickly getting absorbed by LINUX and ISV’s will decide it’s fate. SAP via SAP HANA has moved to LINUX. We’ll see what the other big ISV’s do going forward. UNIX brings a history of constant proprietary improvement. LINUX not so much. Get hacked once under LINUX, and those el cheapo programmers will not look so cheap. Where the technical skills for mainframe and Unix reside is an IBM decision rushing headlong into “who will do it for less” Good luck with that IBM Rushing to lowest cost usually doesn’t end well.

Reminds me of democrat mayors asking for federal money after allowing months of rioting.
