Thread regarding Belk layoffs

Employees should protest

I think if every employee stood up and said “we are mad as hell and we aren’t gonna take it anymore” and walked out things would change.

Anyone who waves the flag for Sycamore or Belk is uninformed or at worse ignorant. Your corporate cheerleading is so sheeple and self degrading. I would imagine your limited skills will not help you find a new job. You're desperate and have Stockholm syndrome and I feel sorry for you. Now, enough about you, back to the situation at hand.

"You probably missed, “hanging out and waiting for next round of lay-offs?” Best scenario for your attitude. Hope it happens for you, but probably no free store lay offs. In the meantime, if you’re still employeed at Belk, how about chipping in to keep business going?"

I haven't been "employeed" at that rat hole in ages, Peppy.

Take your own sweet, sage advice:
How about you strapping on an extra set of panty shields and crawling in the back of a delivery trailer for an hour or two of steady slinging boxes and sweat? Try it, Nancy, just once? Work off some of that table muscle you've accumulated around the "equator". It'll help straighten out those rounded shoulders and prissy demeanor you've taken on.

Turn off The Ellen Show, put down the Bo Picnic and designer coffee, silence your I-Phone (I know for a fact you can't stay away from this site, but give it a shot), and just try do something other than telling people how they should conduct themselves. If you can do it without drooling all over yourself, then go out and celebrate after– grease burgers and donuts! I know you big girls have big appetites!

"Or they can practice humility and safely know they have a job and benefits, especially for long time employees reaching the stretch lap. The younger crowd should keep their heads down and take advantage of shortened hours, 4 day work weeks and go back to school, all along reaping benefits of full time."

Benefits =

Bare minimum health coverage
Discontinued HSA
Zero 401k support
Work every weekend unless you're management's pet or relative
Closing shift then opening shift or, if you're lucky a split or swing shift schedule
A whole department to yourself, including sales, garment fitting, shoe sizing, replenishment, recovery
and merchandising, unloading trucks, cleaning, phones, loss prevention and much more!
Invitations to "Hurry Up!" and "Do Favors" (my favorite) for management at any time
Paid time off that does not accumulate
Guaranteed blame for any pricing and signage errors on the firm's side (as in, misprints, register or
ad errors)
Paid time off that you request, only to be denied
Unpaid time off that you request, only to be denied
Unlimited time behind the register
Guaranteed no coverage for non-existent meal or other breaks (who needs a toilet, anyway?!)
Steady supply of heat, since the a/c cost money to run, thus is never switched on
Promise of at least 4 whole hours per week (more hours are up to you, they say. Just find someone
to trade or give them to you)
Zero "career" (using the term loosely!) advancement
Lowest pay possible
Rarely see store manager (a real perk!)
Associates are allowed to watch management have coffee, snacks and meals at any time
Associates are allowed to observe management make personal calls, text, shop and chastise
other associates

There must be some I missed?!

Humility is a Belk metric. All hail corporatism!

People will be taken advantage of for as long as they allow themselves to be taken advantage of.
