Many Walt Disney World salaried Sales, Marketing, Finance, HR and Technology are still furloughed, and considering they’ve done without us for 14 weeks we will likely be laid off permanently. Hopefully they make that decision soon because without the extra $600 our unemployment drops to $6.87/hr.

In the next several weeks, most likely widespread layoffs and early retirements at Walt Disney World and Disneyland are coming. This will involve tens of thousands of people. The company's fiscal year ends on September 30 and they will not want to carry furloughed employees (getting paid insurance coverage) into the new fiscal year. In this way, they can take the financial write-offs associated with all these separations before the new fiscal year starts. This is the best business solution awaiting them and will impact the stock price the least moving forward.
And yet, the executives and top-salaried managers still got their bonus! :/. I’m a 29 year cast member still sitting at home but fortunately am in a union, so I have some protection. But, my guess is if layoffs are coming that something will happen before the new fiscal starts in October.
It looks like the layoff rumor mill is picking up steam. There were a few different articles today, one of which focused on some comments from Abigail Disney.
One interesting quote was in reference to the furloughs back in April... “Disney furloughed its workers because they intend to lay many of them off, but they didn’t want the bad publicity that would come with layoffs, so they chose to take the heat of two medium-sized PR hits, instead of one great big one. Wait for it. Layoffs are coming. I don’t expect Disney to pay people who don’t work for them, nor do I expect them to employ people in excess of what they can afford.”
Wow.

Layoffs in Central Florida (over 100 companies have laid off employees) will result in "Depression era" circumstances. This could apply to tens-of-thousands if Disney employees, as well as thousands of others in the in the hospitality/tourism industry. This is so sad... people will be evicted, live in their cars, etc.
Please help us keep our jobs...
My old boss contacted me a few weeks ago told me that a few of her blue badges are still in furlough. Then she asked me if there are any openings in my company for them. Essentially she was trying to find them jobs. So it seems. that Disney will eventually let go of them if they have not been asked to come back to work. This is so sad.
Disney is a company notorious for blindsided layoffs. There’s no job security with this company.
Since this is an anonymous site, if anyone knows of likely permanent lay-offs at WDW or DL please reply and let us know. With the CARES ending, we need to know what to do asap!
Yeah I wish they would give us some type of certainty. Optimally I would love to continue working at Disney since the job market is really tough out there
Fingers crossed that they’ll want us back soon
