Husky are laying off another 10% of employees/contractors. They are not renewing contractors contracts this year.
In the last week alone I have seen 4 people leave the office with all of their belongings.
Many more cuts to come over the next couple of months.
Why would we refine more in Alberta? Our crude customers don't want gasoline and diesel they want a feed stock that they can store for years without issue not a fuel that degrades in 3 to 6 months. Alberta currently produces enough fuel for its own needs plus a bit which we ship out to BC who has no refineries.
All refineries operate on a similar logistics plan; they are located near the source of consumption and the crude is brought to them.
Most office jobs are working from home these days. I don’t think you would have seen 5 people walk out of the building.
Oil and Gas jobs are relatively safe.
The federal government will need to support our industry even with low oil prices. Why? If they don’t it will be seen as western alienation. Jobs will rebound here.
One thing is we should have the oil refiners here in Alberta. Why ship oil down south for processing and then ship it back ?
We won't see too much in cuts to any Oil and Gas company in Alberta. The federal government will need to subsidize the industry as we are at the bottom. Alberta has been the driving engine in Canada and has supported all provinces including Quebec and Ontario. It is time for these provinces to help Alberta. I expect programs to support our industry here in Alberta to increase.

Tell me which company in Calgary does not have nepotism? The bigger the company the higher its nepotism levels. Close your eyes on it and earn your pay check.
If the company were worried about $$, implement a 10-15% cut in salaries, they'd soon claw back and save some money. Industry piers are doing the same and have already implemented these cost cutting measures.
Don't worry about bonuses either. Your company is failing..congrats Mr Peabody, have $7 million in bonus, you've sure earned it. You should all be happy you have a job.
The politics and nepotism is this company's area of weakness. Nepotism runs rife throughout this company. More cuts are coming before the everyone returns to the office in September.
For some jobs it is hard to measure productivity if you work from home. The only way is to be active and keep providing updates and reports to your group and supervisor. Be active !
How about St. John's? What is going on there? They have oodles of geologists and geophysicists and no real projects, just recycling old work with new eyes.
After months of working from home it is pretty apparent who is necessary and who is not. Some people have been just as effective at home as in the office, others have not. Mgmt is starting to realize who is actually working and who can be cut loose. Alot can be cut loose without any real impact.
We have hope. Many companies are close with vaccine development. Once pandemic will fade away the oil price should rebound. We have couple of months to wait and hope for the best.
