Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

what I know to be fact about the announcement Thursday

source is store director of a non-neighborhood store but i think this is how it will be across the board:

  • If you’ve been called back from furlough or were never furloughed then you are not at risk of being laid off
  • if you aren’t being brought back from furlough tomorrow (6/21) then you will likely be laid off by Thursday
  • all support managers will become 1 position - VM, MTM, RTM, APM. I am not sure if Ops Managers or OAPMs will be some type of Senior Support Manager or if they will be the same as everyone else
  • Sales Managers job title changes to Customer Service Manager
  • Supervisor position is eliminated. I’ve heard rumors from other senior leaders that they’ll be offered captain positions within the regular selling colleague bucket but that’s unverified.
  • I don’t have any news about any selling or support associates. leads, or counter managers

long story short, if you’ve been brought back from furlough then your job is safe for now but your title will change. If you weren’t brought back this week then you’ll likely be offered a package. hope this puts some people’s minds at ease

Can they legally cut your pay without your consent. Thought the only way to do that was to eliminate your position first. Then reapply if you want to.

this announcement....is this why people who are furloughed, associates and managers, have not heard anything even when their stores have reopened? i am back to work, but many others are not and feel they have been left in the dark about what is happening. there is no communication and people are frustrated!!!! can you blame them?????? also nothing has been said about the extension of benefits for july. a week from today is july 1st. why? because if you haven't been called back, you will be laid off??
the lack of communication is horrible!!!

@2dma+15zxsuGz if the sales sups are within range they will be able to keep their pay. Not sure if they can decline and take severance.

What a terrible mistake Macy’s will be doing combing those 3 positions the store is going to look terrible because the visual person won’t care anymore about how the store looks they won’t have pride in there work. And who is going to help that lonely visual person with all that work updating setting trends, floor moves, setting sales, tracking cosmetics collateral, ordering missing and damaged collateral. Cleaning all the mannequins and visual fixtures repairing broken fixtures , Setting monthly directives not to mention setting up all of Q4 that takes a month or more! I can’t see this working out. I’m very disappointed and hart broken with this company.

So if those who are sales Supervisor, will they have to take a pay cut to become these captains and if so are we allowed to decline and take a package

OVM- 1-3 depending on volume. Ops manager & MTM will convert to that title w/fulfillment & visual reporting to one or the other (my guess is this decision is up to your VPSM). VM's can stay on, will no longer hold that title. Not sure is they can become an OVM, maybe?

One person will assume the combined functions in 3/4 pillars in store. OVM, Manager Business Admin, manager sales and customer service. Some stores will have more than 1 OVM and functions will be split. Depends on store volume.

Wishing everyone the best for this week. Yes, Wednesdsy/Thursday seems like the time for announcements. ...30 years with this company and this is what's gonna happen. Shame on you Macy's and shame on me for giving my career and a part of my life to you.

They original post is correct, except that APM is removed from the bucket and Ops is included along with MTM and Visual to create one position, OVM. Most stores will have two of these combined positions. The new Sales Mgrs role will become more global, hence the Customer Experience Manager title. They will now also be involved in support functions. The goal is to make everyone in the store become more global and well rounded in thinking.

This doesn’t make 100% sense. Yes, I’ve heard parts of this too. But as far as being safe if you were brought back...I don’t think so. I’m a VM, brought back in the first round (5/20). My MTM was only off for 2 weeks. My OAPM is back today. If that is all one position now...then 2 of us aren’t safe. And the way they’ve been yanking our chains these past 2 weeks...it’s despicable. I literally can’t sleep from the stress. 11 years and this is how they treat us.

I heard the same. Store Manager. MTM, new role of mba-manager of business admin-will replace ASTS. Asts, unless you’ve held a sales manager position before will not qualify. Supervisor roles will be gone. Only captains. If you weren’t called back you’re laid off.

First you say –

"if you aren’t being brought back from furlough tomorrow (6/21) then you will likely be laid off by Thursday"

And THEN you say –

"I don’t have any news about any selling or support associates. leads, or counter managers"

WHUT?

So if you have no info on support, does your first comment about furloughs only apply to management and store execs?

Our store currently has Myshop Captains. Will these new Captain positions that Supervisors could move into be the same thing? Or are they completely different positions?

“all support managers will become 1 position - VM, MTM, RTM, APM.”

Does that mean it’ll just be one person doing the job or just one person per position?
