Thread regarding Bed Bath & Beyond layoffs

TARGET employees to receive $15 hour starting in July.

They have been paying there associates an extra $2 hour for the Covid19 hazard pay. The hazard pay was to end, but the company realized the dedicated employees were worth the extra money. Target also gave there employees a $200 one time bonus , for there efforts during the pandemic.
Great job Target! I commend you for caring about your employees!
Now, Bed Bath and beyond......you ended the hazard pay. I believe the pay increase should continue... yes we use masks, most customers do not. It's difficult when doing TBS orders, and customers are right up on you. Then all you hear from Managers....get BEYOND orders !!!
Also I'm in a state where the number of confirmed cases have been increasing daily. What are your thoughts people???

Yes you can. I quit because BBB was being unreasonable with the schedule and inventory. The state (Colorado) found they violated some labor law and I was approved.

I quit BBB as Department Supervisor with Keys Feb 4th, 2020. I transferred to a new store, worked Sunday my entire shift and came in Monday and clocked out after 2 hours and never came back. The new store was c-ap. I filed for unemployment, I get 412 bucks a week and then I also get the extra 600 a week. Life is good man. Screw BBB. 10 years of blood for that company.

Comparing Target to BBB is like comparing a Ferrari to a Segway.

Pfffftt people complain waaaayyyy too much. Yeah target was giving an extra $2 dollars hazard pay and YES if the $2 goes away than even with the $15 they will be making less buuuuuttttt. They didn’t HAVE TO give hazard pay. They didn’t HAVE TO raise their wages. They chose to. Sometimes people need to take a step back and look and think about the situation. Obviously target makes more money than bed bath but they also have more employees. People act like paying an extra $2 an employee is like a drop in the bucket.. Thats on average probably an extra $400000 a year per store in payroll wages a year. Don’t be crazy. Anyone that says Target isn’t doing the right thing is foolish. Even if BBB wanted to do that it would bankrupt them. Why do you think every year payroll gets less and less? It’s because they have to offset the costs of minimum wage increases... 🙄

Target has way better benefits. All employees can earn vacation time, sick time, they offer medical to all TMs this year via digital appointments. They have a TM life resource fund to help team members going through hard times. Yes they have standards, Hence them paying so much. But they also get a high caliber of a team because they can be picky their technology is far beyond Bed baths. I’m happy I made the switch last year to join target. It’s a stable company and my store has done well so the bonuses are great!

All retail is brutal. Especially now with all the gloves and masks that are required . No thanks. The pay and schedule are not worth it. Good luck to all who chooses to stay.

The article below is from 2017, as proof to my earlier comment. I believe BBB should pay more, but please don't allow other companies to pretend to care sway your opinions.

Just like we have the layoff target has their own little chat board called the breakroom in which hundreds of people are complaining over the conditions of working durning pandemic and how they are actually losing money by target changing the 2 dollar increase to just a flat 15 dollar wage. Those people making more than 13 dollars an hour just lost money by their glorious pr move while still assuming the same risk

Lol wow, I think people are forgetting two things, target makes MUCH more than bbb and target promised their associates $15/hr by 2020 THREE years ago. They have been raising the wages every year since that announcement to meet that goal. Target did not decide to pay more because of covid (other than the hazard pay), they just spinned the story that way because why not. Take that win where you can get it. If you dive further than just one or two articles on your google page you'd see that. Also, instead of asking BBB to step it up, just go apply at target.

Just remember if you jump ship and head over to Target, they were considered an "essential" business (carry groceries and pharmacies) so they did not close. I heard one store tried to rope off clothing and other non-essential items so customers would stick to the essential shopping (groceries and meds) and get in and out of the store as quickly as possible to avoid exposing employees to virus. Heard the store had to take down the ropes and let customers shop as normal which naturally increased the employees exposure. Hazard pay is nice but getting the virus is not worth it in my mind. Hazard pay is not going to help you if you are extremely sick or dead. Also my store over the years has had a few employees go over to Target and eventually come back. One thought Target had more issues than we did and this was during the period MT was in corporate over there. Only time will tell how any retail business will recover. The $15/hr. is nice but I believe quite a few states are working toward that goal within the next few years. So you must decide if the extra pay is worth it and stress of being with an "essential business". I hope we do not see an increase in virus cases to the point we have to reduce operations. But now BB&B knows it can operate some stores as fulfillment centers and do curbside pickup and keep staffing down to a minimum if necessary.

I've been with BBB for 2 years, and I'm not near $15 ! And neither are most of my coworkers. I agree, customers no masks. And the extra pay would help, this past week we had 3 sick call outs.
I thinks it's time to go and apply at Target.
