GM IT forced back into overstuffed offices

Micromanaging King of General Motors Randy Mott, aka socially ignorant ranch owning ostrich farmer, hasn’t been able to sleep the past few months as IT has been forced to work remotely due to greedy Governors who have the audacity to care for the well being of its residents. Productivity being at a high level has angered Motty as it doesn’t align with his extremely unique and innovative “Work from Work” vision. Going against Governors Whitmer’s executive order 115 section 4, stating works who can work remotely should do so, is forcing Michigan workers back into the office starting next week. To hell with everyone’s well being. Pack them in like sardines and crack that whip. Ford Motor company proving itself weak by allowing its white collar workforce to work remotely until the new year has given him a new vigor not seen since his youth.

I have never seen an executive so despised, reviled and genuinely loathed by all his subordinates. He is genuinely an evil man who does not care for anyone or anything but his ego. It is an utter disgrace that Mary Barra allows this man to make such a heavy decision by putting the lives of its employees at risk by being forced back into the office.

Good one Randy!

A company is NOT a "Tech" company when none of the leadership are technical.

Connection, Loyalty and Collusion are the currency for promotion in GM IT. Like being in a pack of hyenas feeding on the rest of the company while I was there.

So glad I left GMIT pre virus, and not surprised Randy would be putting people back in the office early. It was genuinely interesting work and my team up to and including director were great, but with Mott in charge, the fear, the old school thinking, a dinosaur no-cloud 100% insourcing model impeding progress, and promotions to senior grades for Mott Mafia only, it is not a place you want to spent a large amount of your career.

Just remember you are valuable, you have useful skills and there will still be plenty of jobs out there for IT folks outside of GMIT

Friend of mine at the Austin Innovation center told me he has had to go work at the office since the last few weeks and the worst part? He is forced to wear a mask, even while sitting inside his cube. Wearing a mask for 8 hrs can be frustrating.

Good one Randy!

I’ve heard Directors really dislike him and his general attitude of IT employees. Supposedly he’s been pretty upset that employees have been working from home for this long. Many directors/managers have been pleasantly surprised with the amount of productivity during these past three months. None of that matters to Dr. Evil errrr.... I mean Randy Mott. Apparently adults behaving like adults and getting their work done without being micromanaged in the office was just a dystopian vision prior to COVID-19.

It’s funny that GM is trying to position itself as an innovative and forward thinking Tech Company that can go toe to toe with the tech giants but has this guy running IT with an old school mentality.
