I wonder if those that got called back are safe from layoffs? Or is everyone’s future up for grabs.

Seems like it will be on either Wednesday or Thursday when announcements will be made. Conversations will most likely start Monday/Tuesday. 😔

Any info on corp admins? They might not be quite as essential while everyone is remote, but will surely be needed once everyone returns, the glue that holds it all together. They tried eliminating many a couple of years ago only to hire 1/2 of them back. This is the most stressful time for all of us, keeping us in the dark until the 11th hour has been torture!

Thank you so much for responding, i think i understand. I had a feeling, as much... as my manager says im ok i still need to hear it from the big dogs when the announcement is made. She can do my job for sure but she has her own full time over time responsibilities, so i was thinking i would be absorbing the crew under me?
Again i thank you

How it was handled in each department likely varies. I've heard of areas where the senior management decided who was staying with no input from even a director level. Most management I'm sure was able to give feedback on the value of their people.

In the end, if whoever you report to was able to take on your job, they took it. If they didn't know how to do your work, you stayed. They had to do what they had to do from a $ perspective, but employee B in that scenario isn't necessarily better for the company than employee A.

Do you guys know if managers had a say for their team OR they chopped a more senior title /higher salary role.
Did a manager get to give input on which workers work & which who slack during the decision process?
Im a manager under a director with others under me...im the mid tear role.

I agree with a lot of what this commenter said about losing strong talent. Also agree there were some questionable decisions on who stayed. It was done based on title and not all businesses have the same needs. Macys did not tell suppliers they would pay when they were ready. They extended the payment terms in order to get the company through store closures. Most suppliers found a way to work with macys. They also recently decreased those terms getting closer to where it was prior to the closures

This is true about some of the executives having left the company already. I can think of a few who have taken jobs with other companies, which even though it opens payroll it's disheartening due to talented individuals leaving an already dysfunctional company. There were some bad decisions made on who was kept on and who were furloughed within corporate, almost like some senior management have zero clue who does what (or some people saved themselves).

Macy's as a company told their suppliers that we're just not paying you until we're ready, which none of them agreed with of course. My building no longer has a security team because they weren't paid so they told Macy's to kick rocks. When there's little financial activity happening it certainly ceases the need for many functions within a company. You furlough them and cut their lifeline then they'll go find better employers.

I don’t think anything was meant to be announced today. They are still nailing down details of who is coming back and who is not.
As with all other times there is cuts they are looking to place as many folks as possible.
There’s been a lot of managers that have left during the furlough period. Therefore I don’t even expect something on Monday. I think Tuesday or Wednesday.

Is the last comment before this one true (vs speculation)? Were they actually planning to announce today and then moved the date due to Juneteenth?

Please, out of respect, do not comment on your perspective of Juneteenth. I simply would like to know if that was the plan keeping our jobs in perspective.

Announcements were initially scheduled to come today but due to Jeff deciding we need to celebrate today's holiday with poetry readings, that was cancelled. Would be a real bad look to layoff anyone today.

Not sure at which point next week these announcements will be made, but would be shocked if they're not.

Seems that it will be at least next week before any new information gets released. Enjoy your weekend as best as you can!
