The fate of Neighborhood stores

Given the severe cuts regular stores are taking, what is happening to neighborhood stores? How much worse can it get?

I'm at a Neighborhood in Pennsylvania. We've been told we will start liquidating late August and expect to be gone by late January (at the latest). After that, JCP will be the only anchor left in our mall (if they make it).

Pure speculation, but I'm guessing neighborhood stores will be used to burn off merchandise both in store and whatever DCs can send them. But I don't see them lasting long. For many, turning around to save their fate was nearly impossible. Under these new conditions, I think it is now impossible.
