This 17 percent increase in retail is definitely not reflected in our store. We have half as many customers as we usually do, and that's on a good day! I thought this was a coronavirus-related thing but now I'm starting to wonder if this could be an "us" thing.
Anybody else experiencing anything similar? Should I be worried we might be on the chopping block soon?
Our store is a train wreck.
Also add into the mix the huge influx of returns due to no fitting rooms. People are buying multiple sizes of everything, hence a bug jump in sales, but they are returning everything that doesn't fit. Also they are returning merchandise that they have been holding onto since March. I'm curious if that is being factored in to the numbers.
Our store is doing really well, only down slightly from last year. But many stores are doing poorly I hear, some down up to 60 percent over last year. At this point, from what I understand, there are not many Belk stores doing great. Apparel stores in general, even though they were up 17% last month, are still not coming near last year's numbers.
