Thread regarding Bed Bath & Beyond layoffs

Got called back.....

They only gave me 4 hours! Yes, only 4 hours!
Anyone with same situation? Anyone that has called human resources about it?

How about this novel idea......why dont you take all these questions you guys are posting on this site and just ask your SM or call MYHR to get the real answers?

If you are FT and they have a position, but that position isn't a 40 hour job, they called all FT on furlough to see if they wanted to come back PT for now and they can increase their hours when/if business calls for it.

If you come back accepting less hours and ultimately a smaller check, you still might be eligible for unemployment benefits.

Educate yourself w the right tool and stop asking tools to educate you.

Just curious: If you are full-time but want to request and would be willing to work part-time hours until the store has more hours (still have concerns on going back full-time until things are better in our area plus have health concerns), and your request is approved by HR, do you get say 3 days if that is what you would like or do you get whatever part-time hours are available? Just thought someone out there may have an idea or may just need to discuss with SM. Thanks.

Saw something on portal that stated full timers cannot be scheduled less than 35 hours unless they request it and hr approves it. We have a full timer that can't come back full time yet do to child care, so hr approved them to work only a couple days. We don't have enough hours to give another full timer 35 hours so they arent being brought back until we do.

For the person who just posted re: not getting enough hours and being full time, yes please check with your state's unemployment website. In NJ that would be a reduction in hours (at least for this week) and you should be able to collect the difference between what your unemployment has been and the amount you are paid for the few hours you work. Please just take a few minutes to check out the unemployment website for your state. As nerve racking as being furloughed was due to all the unknowns at that time, waiting to be called back is just as nerve racking. But from what I have read in my area, this is normal for all retail, restaurants, business operations, etc. Hopefully we can get into a "new normal" routine soon.

I was called last night literally 5 minutes before the store closed, and was supposed to come in this morning at 8. I guess that's what qualifies as advance warning these days. But no worries, my SM said they'd be "nice" and give me an extra 2 hours. I just asked about my schedule for the rest of the week and they laughed and said there is none, and I might get a full schedule next week, emphasis on might., so I came off furlough as a FTer to an empty schedule and no hours. But what can you do, you say no and they report to the DOL that you turned down coming back to work. I guess I have to make my return to work as short-lived as possible and dump those losers, and maybe see if I can get partial unemployment to make up for the hours they're stiffing me for.

If you have to give a proper notice to them, they need to give you one too. They wanted me to come back yesterday, but I already had an appt an hour away so they let me come back today. A coworker got a call back, but he said he was ready so they're letting him wait.
