Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Future Leader Program Should Be Retired

The future leader program is like confederate statues. They are arcane and relics of the past. They are exclusionary symbols. How can we preach inclusion when we have programs that are purposely designed to separate personnel into buckets and exclude based on subjective opinions?

I agree with the other poster. If Mike can’t remove all of these programs that create exclusion then he is the wrong CEO. I am also talking about the program where they all first became friends, the MBA program. Another great example of exclusion and special access in Chevron.

We must move to one system where the most qualified people get the job. Finally, gender does not create diversity. A bigot is a bigot regardless if you are a male or female.

I know of several future leaders who were added to the list because they liked to fish with GOM managers and were generally fun fishing buddies, especially after a few beers. They were very average workers and the rest of us just rolled our eyes,

The future leaders program did get eliminated... it just got culled and rebranded to something else because the list had too many people and not enough Gm positions, believe it or not

Now a days they are told if they are on it, not so in my day. They need to be willing to move anywhere in the world every 2 years, if not, then they are out of the program.

Gotta have something to get a person to a psg 30 plus by age 50. Any ideas on how to do it? Whatever it is, someone will not like it. Main thing is to be fair and kick em out when they show a pompous attitude pronto,

Whether they eliminate such programs or not, these people know who is “on this list” and it really won’t matter. Guess what, they talk, they know who is moving up!

There hasn't been a moment in my career where I have seen a designated future leader and there weren't three others working close by doing the same or a higher level of work. It is an unfortunately overrated designation established to include those that make the current male management members feel safe, or to include children of own or family friends. We don't need future leaders. We need individuals who can roll up their sleeves and deliver now.

It used to be that MBA Development program grads that didn't move up quickly got drummed out of Chevron. I found that most were too ambitious to wait on a slower career track and left Chevron.

I didn't care for the newly minted stereotyped MBA that was placed on your project team that would tell the team "I want to be the CFO" without acknowledging that they might be able to learn from us peons on their way up the organization.

My wife is on the MBA program and I am not. When they have their little parties, she says it is probably better that I don't attend. It might make some of them uncomfortable. Exclusion at its best.

I am so tired of the future leader program. I turned a 24 this year and asked if I was a future leader. I was told no. I have been a solid 1 performer for 4 years. I am a black man. I asked my boss why I was not a future leader and guess what i was told. My boss said, I did not engage with the senior leaders enough when I first joined the company. Performance has very little to do with being a future leader, look at Andy W. You have to buddy up with the managers. Find out what they like. If they like golf, you learn to golf, if they like tennis, learn tennis, if they like going out and getting drunk, pass the bottle. You have to become their buddy so they put you on the list.
