Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

ImagineIT will be slashing close to 40% of Employees

Just heard from my supervisor that #ImagineIT will be slashing closer to 40% of us Blue Badges in ITC and across the function, despite indication it would be between 20-30% range, clearly management is not being transparent and is avoiding the topic of telling us how big of a warhammer is going to come down on us.

How is it we pay Lady Geagea's lazy A$$ $13+MM/yr to give us attitude with his angry F-face staring at us on those transformation calls referring to us as "Commodity IT", give me a break. After all the digital talk of IT being critical to Chevron's success, we learn that the DIA was just a way to give another white female a meaningless GM job where she promotes wasting $100MM in IT Spend across the enterprise on big dollar consultants, and let her convince other young women she has added value. She's a joke. Appreciate the ELT wasting money on tokenism and then cutting us employees as a parting gift.

BCG is still around. it's really unbelievable that we are paying these guys probably $300-400/hour while employees got laid off.

IT is currently being run by business folks. They're called product line managers and product owners. The old IT managers have now become resource managers and are even farther away from making any impact with the business. GREAT CALL BY BCG.

IT is a mess. Its extremely disorganized and people are pretty frustrated. Attrition will increase at some point.

so, how are things going after a few months in IT after slashing 40%? outsourcing everything to accenture and hcl?

typical Chevron IT to be giving horrible managers cushy expat assignments in the twilight years prior to retirement. Probably could have saved a couple of good jobs if we had just let that one go.

Why is the new IRSM org so F-ing big?! Seems like the old org, but on steroids. Impressive, that even in a low commodity environment...IT imagines a new way for us to burn money! Why stop at 40%, cut them all!

Chevron ceo has more intelligence than everyone combined on this thread. If you know anything about corporate America it’s about the shareholders that own the company not people wasting money doing jobs that can be automated.

@1kfvd+15s8EW7D , please let us know when you’re starting your comedy tour.

You don’t realize that you are becoming what you claim to hate so much. You will either be saved in a SWE position or people will start seeing you as the IT guy on the team because of your super human ability to use Power Apps and Power BI without ANY assistance from IT.

Good luck new IT guy!

@1kbni - Brother, SWEs? We don't need no stinkin SWEs. IT s—s so bad, those of us in the functions within MCBU gave up and got everyone trained up learning PowerBI and PowerApps on our own. Citizen SWEs MFs!!

Just like IT to put out a bull-S org chart. They have been implying that people can upskill to the new job roles as they will have a gazillion SWEs openings when they really have no plans to move people like us from infra and networking over and will instead just axe them to give JG the cuts he is demanding. We don't even have 1 real SWE. Even the Chief SWE ain't a real SWE. PowerApps is not software engineering!!!

Round 3 IT management is shatting themselves in the current selection meetings this week, as they just found out that business managers have been written in by the CDO and other VPs for the IT "Technical" Platform Manager roles, given that they know more about Azure then the id–ts in IT. The CDO and the BU VPs will no doubt throw IT under the bus. Finally Chevron is embracing good decision making!

BCG brought their very best to help us transform since, you know, BCG has such a word class technical organization that we spend millions of dollars on for the excellent MVPs that they leave us after just a quick 16 weeks of showing us how teaming works. They're setting us up for success, both inside and outside of Chevron IT. I was a business analyst, and that role is going away because we want to be "a more technical organization". But wait, leaders says we still need BA skills. We have just rebranded those roles into "data analyst" positions that do not match up with what the data analyst job descriptions are - ANYWHERE ELSE IN THE WORLD. LMAO. So when I hopefully land my data analyst position, I will keep my "Business Analyst" title on my LinkedIn profile so that everybody else will know what I really do. I'll also apply to be an "analytics analyst"... because that job with a stupid a– title is also what hundreds of us are applying for. Don't worry. BCG got us take care of. And the FLT can't push back on it because they have no f-ing clue.

They just renamed the CDO position filled in Round 2 to "Technical" CDO. He must be feeling 30 IQ points smarter right about now, which is fantastic cause our IT friends up north told me with respect to digital, he use to be legally r—ded.

the list of top contending candidates at the PSG 25-27 levels for these IT "technical" manager jobs is just your current functional IT managers and BU IT managers. none of them know the businesses very well. they just go with whatever is in their echo Chambers amongst themselves and pat each other on the back.

The “Technical” Platform Managers will be awesome. They plan to design the Digital Platforms to be very stable, just like the Bigfoot Tension Leg Platform was originally designed to be. So what could go wrong?

I used to worry about layoffs and the future, but then I heard the good news about Teaming. Once I let Teaming into my heart and accepted it as my Lord and Savior, all my troubles melted away. My only desire now is to preach the good news on Workplace. You too can be saved. Just close your eyes, open your heart, and embrace the joy of Teaming.

bank on this: the digital platform managers in the business will be much more technical than the technical managers in IT.

I love how the LT added "technical" to the IT platform manager job titles, just to add credibilty to the bozos the LT selects. Who are they fooling? lmao

I've heard a lot of people say how important these Round 3 selections are to set us up for our future with a more technical IT organization. But look at who is on the selection team for Round 3. How in the hell are they going to know how to put the right people in the right roles? There are third party vendors who work for us and are surprised that some of our tech experts are even tech experts. And now they want technical people to manage 15-20 people each. More and more people will quit. The people that should be laid off will stay, and the people Chevron IT needs to keep will leave. This is quite the mess that the CIO will have to figure out how to solve.

A good scrum master will adopt fit for purpose processes for the team while reporting up and out with the train engineers to let the teams do what they do best.

@18ied - Obviously SWE, cause none exist today....None. Probably safety-net platform architects to correct the assigned Chevronian "architects" from going crazy and manufacturing technical debt, cause you already know it will happen. And scrum masters...cause we need baby sitters apparently, unlike product engineering teams at real tech companies who don't try to Chevronize SAFE.

Relax everybody, just give it time and wait for Round 4. Given how ridiculous management is, by the time this is all said and done we will be +10% headcount if anything.

After da German left ya, I don't see many DS's around the company staying much longer given the limited upward movement and switching of chapters will likely be discouraged after horizons so there won't be much career variety as there isn't a lot of overlap, and all other roles outside the chapters are too high PSG. Don't see many millennials and GenZ-ers sticking around for the implementation of FartFest2020.
