You'd think that someone from Corporate would respond to all this negativity if it wasn't true. Or at least try to reassure the employees if they cared about them.

The Charlotte observer has made multiple requests to belk and they get the same canned response. most companies would want to address and negative rumors (bankruptcy, poor employees morale, layoffs etc..) not Belk, they just keep quiet.
All media inquiries to belk receive the same response “no comment”

Not here. They wouldn't just jump on, identify, and start a debate. They get little minions to trash people occasionally.
But, otherwise, a collective statement about operational procedure would be issued by a representative via a press release. They want to avoid having something, anything that could be used against them should a legal issue arise. It has to go through channels.
Just like during busy holidays or dangerous weather periods, where managers get memos that tell them how to respond should the media inquire about safety issues,

Legally, they can't directly comment, as even an anonymous board really isn't. But, on occasion, a supportive minion pops up here to throw a random insult at a negative commenter.
They don’t know how to respond because it’s all true. so they keep quiet.
