Rumor is July somepoint they will start rolling people back into the shop and full force by the end of the year but that’s the rumor like always believe it when you see it.
Anyone else think that the Junks shop is closed forever?
The ramp does not need the amount of managers it has. Basically 3 per shift plus a senior manager and a director. Hell Sam's clubs is way bigger and employes way more than the ramp and has way less white hats running around. That shop only needs one manager per shift and a shop foreman for each shift. The director who was over nlr and pine bluff. Now pine bluff is gone do we really need a director and a senior managers. The company can save 100s of thousands of dollars just at the ramp but cutting have the managment team. Never in my life seen so many whites hats and they still can only get out a small amount of locomotives out the shop. Piss poor management and it starts with the director down.
You are correct. All jobs will come back with other duties as required. So when you get done with your duties you can go do a pipe fitters job. I told them years ago not to give up their work...
Would the intentionally used wrong there be talking about the shop, managers, or workers productivity? If it’s the managers productivity they don’t really do much in the first place as far as productive work sitting in an office pushing paperwork and telling people how to do their job improperly.
The word on the street is that some of the new young managers have been rewriting jobs at the direction of someone known as the Fish. There jobs depend on it increasing productivity. Wrong there used intentionally.
July 6. Jenks soft opening. Mark my words.
And it'll be a different work load for some.....
Retired last year with 42 years with locomotive department, 27 as a supervisor from u.p. and now No supervisors? Are you kidding me ! Be aware of your surroundings and keep united my brothers. To many crafts being illuminated.
Is this same rumor NP was calling 20 machinist hope so if thy call back in lil Rock then they callin us back in NP also cant wait so ready
Same excuse they used in Pine Bluff. The work didn’t go away like they said, instead in went up the road to North Little Rock.
So much misinformation on here! Hinkle certainly did do xg and ad work! Hinkle did not do complete engine change outs but they were a system shop. The reason no one at Hinkle could transfer is that the executives told everyone Hinkle a work went away due to stored units, etc. The problem is that the union got ahold of some internal emails stating where the Hinkle work was going. The unions do have a lawsuit pending but of course those things take time and Lance And the hedge fund know they’ll be long gone before the railroad has to pay up. They have the unions on the rocks and they’re hammering them good. I won’t be surprised if there are no mechanical unions left once psr is over.
Jenks probably done till this fall guys. All the railroads are slowing down it's just not UP but all. Heck i normally see 5 trains go through my town now there is hardly one train a day passes through. Everyone just calm down. The economy will pick back up and they will call jenks back to work. May not be our time frame but it will open back up. There is alot of broken locomotives out there that needs overhauled
Jenks will open back up a little bit. I overheard Fort Worth shop is getting less work every day.
Just got word from machinist local chairman that jenks will be opening july 1st and they will recall all that where furloughed plus an additional 25 machinist sounded like the electricians are screwed.
That’s what they say, I want to see it in the contract or an agreement in writing.
It’s not about shop size it’s about the work performed at the location.
I keep hearing that same story. Would like to see it in writing. Don’t recall anything stated about shop size.
Guess so. Paying into a local that says I have no seniority rights there. They took over building our consists, running repairs, and low hp maint, yet I pay $90 a month for squat. As per the IAM union rep.
So just a guess from what was stated Hinkle was a running repair shop/servicing facility. Not a shop doing any type of major work such as total engine changes(xc), main generator swaps(xg), accident damage rebuilds(ad), total overhauls, or any type of work that could take weeks or months to achieve completion. Therefore no work to be moved to another location because the work that was being performed there is done in short time frames like hours or days and is already being done at other locations on the system. That case no there would be no bumps or ability to follow the work just like Kansas City and Pine Bluff when they closed. Jenks isn’t like that, apparently the only shops comparable to it are North Platte, Fort Worth, maybe Huston, and maybe Roseville. Sadly totally different situation still bull$hit that they closed the facility and cost people their livelihood.
Shop closed all but a few went home, no transfer, no bump. Also first hand knowledge. Happened twice in 20 years.
Hinkle wasn’t a main shop from what I’ve heard it could be compared to Pine Bluff or the Kansas City shop that got closed down. But hey only time will tell what will happen, trying to get good information out there to counter all the bull$hit locker room reps and other people who think they know but have no idea. First hand knowledge of locations getting merged into North Little Rock apparently doesn’t account for anything here.
Cant wait till OT hits in NP again just so i can at least make up all days off I donated to save a job from underneath me. Summer fun time is here. Bring in the dough!
I work in the north platte shop and jenks work has not moved here. North platte already cut so many when things pick up a little it will be back to OT like crazy again just how it was before.
Lol bumping into another locations isn’t going to happen anytime soon. As everyone knows the railroad is always thinking ahead (unlike unions). There are many small locations that already set a precedent on following your work. If you want an example look at Hinkle.
Union Rep says it isn’t going to happen.
Thanks for the post and info, learned something new.
Good to see jinx old head woke up from their nap people were starting to worry they kicked the bucket because they actually had to work. If any of the work that was done at the Jenks shop is moved and performed at another shop (even North Platte) they are required to post jobs for that work, and allow people from Jenks to follow the work where ever it may go. As they did for the main shop in Omaha in the 80’s, Salt Lake in the 90’s, Denver in the 00’s, and South Morrill in this current decade, when those locations closed they merged those that followed the work into that locations roster. If anyone would ask their union rep they would gladly tell you that it is in one of the many agreements that the company is supposed to follow especially when closing a shop for good. Now there are a limited number of jobs that will follow that work (the company decides that number) and when those jobs become available those that choose to follow the work can bid on that work, they can also somehow choose to bump into another job instead of bidding on that work that they follow to the new location, not exactly sure how that works but once again your local union rep can tell you how exactly that all works out. The work that was being done at Jenks didn’t just all of a sudden disappear it had to go somewhere else to be done or get scabbed out. People please ask questions to someone who knows this information before you go and give out false and bad information, some people on here actually use this information and then get made to look like fools when they tell everyone what they’ve heard and then the accurate information is finally given out. The current leaders in charge have made it clear that no location is safe everyone is expendable.
How can you bump into north platte, are the facilities under different rosters?
No way, the jenks work disappeared/went away. It can all go somewhere else and no one can bump. Get a taste of your own medicine. Go home while the new guys keep their job. Thanks so much “union”.
Well if north Platte is getting jenks work, well guess what then we can bump into north platte and bump most of you guys out of there so you better hope they are not getting jenks work
I dont think Jenks will open back up. Heard North Platte is getting most of that work whenever it picks back up. Thats why you all see no layoffs at our shop. So dont hold your hopes up.
I'm thinking lmao, your old a– can't take those odd days off. You will for sure take your lazy behind back to jenks. Inside source is saying all you guys are miserable at the ramp. Whining and complaining, it shows to ILP dosen't lie. The sign off hours has went way down. The true work force was laid off and management knows that.
They can keep it closed for all I care. I'm loving it down here. The work is super easy, days off aren't THAT BAD, and the comradery is great! I feel as though I've actually gotten back to my roots and I'm loving it! Matter of fact, if they do reopen Jenks, I'm thinking I'm gonna stay, I've been eyeballing a pretty sweet Wed/Thur job at the Ramp.... One can only hope!
And besides, The Purge (lay off) finally got rid of those ungratful non Union supporting slugs.
Courage to Care y'all!
Union folks furloughed, why on earth would they bring them back?
Stick a fork in it, it’s done.
The camera part is right. They’ve added 75 cameras with facial recognition software so it’s all automated and stored until needed.
Lmao them Jenks boys at the ramp only wish it would open back up. Them old guys are miserable having to actually work and sweat. Love it.
Nope they will keep it shut down one more month if not two more. Their stock's are up and adding the workforce back will lower that number some. Remember they are not done with PSR.
