The Lack of Equality and Inclusion - In Search of "ONE NCR TEAM"

In addressing the social unrest that is impacting our nation as a whole, NCR leadership penned a powerful email this week pledging to do better when it comes to corporate-wide inclusion, diversity, and workplace fairness regards of race.

On the surface, this expression from Mike Hayford was well-received as all of us are searching for leadership in a nation void of leadership during these tumultuous times. However, in speaking with the few people of color that actually work at NCR, the current culture does not foster enrichment, growth, advancement, with regards to long-tenured minorities. More often than not, long-tenured minorities are on a lower pay grade, and have seen less qualified and less expressed non-minorities rise the ranks year after year.

NCR does not employ an officer that oversees inclusion and diversity, a common position that exists within many big tech companies.

If our consciousness must be emancipated, we must free ourselves from our conditional existence. Speaking up is the first step along the path to emancipation.

A question to all who read this thread have you experienced inequality and injustice at NCR?

Go to ncr.Com and click about us, I see diversity among people in the two the posted but what’s missing in both is age difference. Looks like I saw two people outta two group pictures that look to be over 35

One type of diversity that NCR actively quashes is diversity of _thought_. It is not permitted, ever, to suggest that their processes can be simplified or made more efficient. There's not even a channel within the company for expressing such concerns, and the processes themselves have no feedback loops in them. There's no way to correct their excesses in terms of meetings, reports and such. There's no process for reviewing the process itself – so much for Agile principles!

Led a team of engineers responsible for a part of a major product. Total chaos in the beginning. We launched. Product was not perfect but my role is forever etched in that product. Reward? Shoved aside and laid off. Long story. Don't want to go into details. Don't believe cuture is there to cultivate minority employees. Minorities give it all at NCR but are rarely recognized. At least in my circles while I was there

I seen more age discrimination than anything else after 25 years. I’m probably a moving target now

Dear Poster,

You are right, a diversity officer will not fix all the problems, but it's certainly a start.

MLK did pave the way for civil rights for ALL classifications of the non-majority. If not for MLK, we would probably not EVEN have a job at NCR today.

If you feel like you have been marginalized, then if there was ever an opportunity to start a dialogue with leadership to number (1) hold them accountable for their message as actionable as opposed to just lip service, and number (2) be more than just a statistic on form EE0-1 to satisfy federal regulation, then the time is now.

Leadership would be appreciative of your feedback, especially if you have some tangible solutions. Fiery rhetoric creates a problem, ideas on inclusion create a solution.

Puhlease.

A diversity officer ain't gonna fix the situation.

Where is MLK, when you need him?

“I look to a day when people will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.”

This isn't happening. Instead, things are getting worse. It's about quotas and diversity of skin and religion. But not so much diversity of thought or even plain competence.
