Thread regarding Sabre Holdings layoffs

Poll - Job Security

Would you take a 20% pay cut if someone was to guarantee you job security for next 10 years?

If yes (or no), why?

No way Jose, life is a competition and everyone will take the best deal they can. If someone else pays me more or gives me better conditions, then I am leaving. Take that back to HR

The question itself makes no sense for any company, but Sabre? How many masive layoffs took place in Sabre in the last years? Sabre is anything but a safe company for employees independently of their performance.

First off, this is stupid. Nobody is going to guarantee you a job for the next 10 years anywhere. Even if you have a contract it's not a guarantee.

Second off, commitment goes both ways. I am not going to commit for 10 years unless its worth my time. So I am definitely not going to do the same job for 10 years for a 20% pay cut.

If it was a different job, more rewarding non-financially, then I might be willing to do that for a 20% pay cut.

For the job now, it's already bad enough at the pay it was before the cut. Make the cut 20% and permanent and I will definitely be going elsewhere.

I think the reason of this post is because this person got a job offer for 20% less of what he/she was making at Sabre, and this company might be very stable. and he doesn't know what to do. just guessing here.

20% ? Cmon. We are already underpaid at this point. Decreasing it even more seems stupid. For the company it would be much better to pay more to a smaller, but better workforce.

Nope. I plan to quit in the next 6 months. It will take years to make this place a better workplace. I dont want to wait that long.

You are talking about a contract.
It would depend on the terms of the contract, I certainly wouldn't limit Sabre to being my only client.
I wouldn't have a non compete, etc etc. Nothing wrong with contract work. In fact contract work is very clear and straight forward relationship but the devil is in the details

No for two reasons:

1) Job market is not great but there are jobs paying equal or greater than Sabre.

2) Impossible for me to believe that a 20% pay cut would guarantee my job. I will likely get or little or nothing from social security but I do not have a choice on that. Pay because I have to not because I will believe I will receive benefits.
