Thread regarding IBM layoffs

UK LAYOFFS

Does anyone know the final numbers for the UK? Appreciate this will only be an approximation given IBM's secrecy stance.

Whats really sad is the IBM people turning on one another and lashing out. Desperation. Everytime IBM release earnings showing revenue falling this should be an alarm bell ringing and its time to move on and get out. You only have yourselves to blame at this point.

If you guys think that H1B or immigrants are taking your jobs then you are wrong . Look at the Senior management of IBM today. Most groups are headed by Indians or Indian origin. I am a Greek worked for GBS security services in the UK. 4 years back in the whole group there was one Indian at partner band. When I left two years back the whole group was full of Indians at several in band D or band 10. I really doubt anybody other than Indians work in that group.

Wishful thinking, but the process isn't documented. I'm happy to be proven wrong and look forward to reading the info.

Ex IBM UKI here. Reading these comments makes me so happy I left. Toxic people begets a toxic org. Redundancies are not to be taken lightly. Perhaps someone familiar with IBM’s documented redundancy process should comment.

"Whomever posted this has no idea how layoffs work in the UK...... Layoffs are determined by an external consultation committee."

The irony of this post is that ECC (which I'm guessing they are referring to) doesn't stand for "external consultation committee." and anyway an ECC has no power whatsoever.

As mentioned already there is an European Work Council, but to the best of my knowledge there isn't an external consultation committee. If there is, maybe the poster can provide a url to further information? Thanks

No, unknown, but search on IBM intranet the European Work Council pages. Last minutes from May meeting is online.

Thanks for the response - pity you had to prefix it with a condescending sh*t-fit.

Whomever posted this has no idea how layoffs work in the UK. It is not the same as the US. Layoffs are determined by an external consultation committee. Final numbers will be released but we know it is north of 200 for GBS and GTS each. The GBS bench is above that number, for point of comparison. Layoffs are needed due to over hiring and due to business loss in GTS. Performance based terminations and stopping all hiring until bench is reduced could have prevented this.
