Thread regarding Belk layoffs

Don't Drink the Kool-Aid

Both Benjamin Franklin and Malcom X noted that those unwilling to stand up for their rights don't deserve any. Over twenty thousand Belk employees vs. 12 greedy owners. Stand up, speak up. Your actions and your voice trump all their money. Envision the kind of Belk you would like to work at, and make it happen. Real change comes from the bottom up. Those who engage directly with customers know more about Belk than corporate, and certainly the New York 12 . Don't sacrifice your time, pay, effort, and quality of life so 12 fascists can bleed off millions more to their bank account and then lay YOU off, or file for bankruptcy after they give themselves huge bonuses for putting more people out of work.
Life is too short and too precious to be fearful or be treated with disrespect.

Wrong, I’m one of the fortunate hourly’s called back. And I’m grateful for the opportunity although the new One Belk is difficult at best. It’s no different at any other big retailer either and if you look beyond yourself, you will see the change has effected all employees from hourly to management. Be a part of the solution or exercise your Employee At Will rights. We can all choose to separate our employment status at any time for any reason. Good luck!

Sycamore is the "bad apple". You must be a corporate shill.

This site, nor in any store or BSS offices is the place to promote anarchy. Obviously you don’t work for Belk, nor live in NC, or didn’t read the document you signed acknowledging you are an “Employee at Will.” NC is an “Employee at Will” state, meaning the employee or employer can terminate your employment at any time for any reason. Of course not for discrimination and other reasons where current laws protect all employees. If you want change, take constructive concern and criticism to those who have influence to make the change; ie, your elected officials. In itself, this conversation should be a large part of the much needed and long overdue systemic change all our mayors and governors are now focused on. America needs all of it’s $7-$15 employees back on payrolls. Any employee who has been called back to Belk can look around and note the missing co-workers and wonder if they’re coming back. He/she can possibly help them by doing the work of three to help “right the ship.” Or, they can refuse and be let go by calling out, under performing. “Bad apples” are easy to identify, and there are at least 2/3 still furloughed who would be happy to take the job. While I agree Sycamore Group has a reputation that precedes them, being owned by any hedge fund company is not optimal. They’re business practices negatively impact so many, much further than just store level. They’re greed in turn greatly impacts the credit market and puts many other companies, i.e., your vendors, creditors and their employees at risk of losing their jobs and businesses. Wall Street owns retail now, so legislate for some regulation. And for the bashing of Lisa Harper and other corporate executives, they work for Belk just like us. The issue is our owner; Wall Street. Stop spewing and call your Congressman, your Senator, your Mayor and your Governor. Start the conversation where it belongs and may possibly be effective. They probably don’t read the comments on this site, but now is the time and they’re listening.
