Thread regarding Bed Bath & Beyond layoffs

How safe do you feel being back at work?

Are safety measures appropriate? Have the customers been considerate or is it the same as before with an added threat of the coronavirus?

I don't. I had a pair of customers without masks approach my counter, while disinfecting it after the last transaction, demand I remove my mask after I asked them to stand behind the plexiglass. They then proceeded to ask me the following. "Why is a dirty little mexican cleaning counters? Shouldn't you be somewhere else like mexico? Or out protesting with those black folk?"

If I’m required to wear a mask, you better believe I’m not assisting any customers that aren’t doing the same.

Don't help them its your life if the customer does not wear a mask say sorry unless you have a mask on i cannot help u let me get a manager to serve you . Its about your safety and everyone around u . If your store manager does not inforce call it out to osha the state board like said your safety is the most inportant thing. If your state does not require mask then thats another problem i probably would just walk a way from the and say i cannot help u you dont have a mask and i fell unsafe due to the virus an tell the manager what is the plan . Because u are risking my life and all others based on the circumstances if they say though sh– . Call a lawyer see if we can create a case against dangerous work conditions not abiding by Federal guidelines whos knows but this is not acceptable in my book and i would not tolerate it regardless of what position u may have at bbby

memo pretty much said do not approach a customer about not wearing a face mask. Even when some Stores are offering to provide one but are not allowed to do it now. A lot of places in my area including fresh market will refuse service if you are not wearing a face mask.

We all don’t just complain, it called voicing your opinion. And don’t tell me just to get to work. I have 20+ years invested in this company. Worked many open to close shifts and had to go back in to open the next morning and 6 day work weeks also. Sorry can’t post the memo it’s against company policy.

Have Any of you actually gone back to work yet?
I have this past week. After your trained on all the cleaning protocols all you do is clean. There is checklist after checklist. Gloves,Wipes,Cleaners in 3areas of the store at least. Morning and evening huddle is all safety and cleaning conversations. So how do you not feel safe? Literally 2 hours of your day is cleaning and sanitizing.

The company is giving us everything that everyone else has. It's the customers. I'm telling you all. Until they have family members die from this virus. No one cares. We cant make people wear masks. Everywhere I go no one wears masks. It is ridiculous. We will be worse off in a month than we were in april and guess what. They arent closing again. Anyone

All you bbb peeps do is complain. If you're unhappy quit it's not like they are holding anyone hostage! If y'all shut up, focused on your jobs as much as you complain it might be a pleasant experience!

This company needs to start leading instead of following. Protect your employees. Listen to their ideals. Maybe it can help turn the company around. Actually care about them. They work there a—s off.

I’m scared. I return on Friday and we open Saturday. I watched a very PR video on how we have masks, PPE, and new plexiglass. Essentially the SAME stuff we were doing in the days prior to close except for the new plexiglass which is probably as poor as the Dollar Tree was fake.

If it’s as bad as I fear I’m having a doctor write me out. I have some pre-existing conditions. Should be an interesting few days.

The state of Virginia is requiring any person in pubic or a business to wear A face mask. Opened for the first time today. Some customers where not complying. Got a memo from the ceo that we are not enforcing it. So now my associates, family and other customers are at risk.

Someone needs to step up and make a phone call to the town, state , health dept, or maybe even the Gov Murphy if you feel unsafe to be there

BBB does not care about our safety they give us disenfectd wipes that expired 6 years ago cleaning stuff that needs to sit for 20mins or so before wiping off any surface. And not to mention there are no type of dividers to separate the customers and employee 6 feet apart. The managers and ops managers don't care they sit there asses in the office.

Having gone back to work yesterday. It's nice to be back... however after a visit from out temporary DM. I'm terrified. We are said to fully re-open on Friday with little to no restrictions and are expected to be completely overwhelmed. We are a small store with maybe 15 employees... Based on the schedule I received yesterday, it seems we are working with half of that. It also seems like my SM won't be adhering to the requirements of half capacity or require customers to wear masks. We don't even have plexiglass installed yet, let alone enough PPE to go around. With the threat of the virus, and the riots down the street from us. The anxiety is just being masked by dismissal. I asked my SM about what the company plans to do about the protests/riots. He couldn't give me an answer, and just said "We will get out safely." I'm afraid if it keeps up, I'll be out of the job within the month again. Not to even mention the cuts in hours. I'm hardly going to make enough to pay my bills. I'll be lucky if I get any hours next week at all. It just doesn't make sense to re-open at this time. It feels forced, and unsafe.
