I heard that they will do selections differently this time. People will know who is on the selections team and see what they look like. Why does what the selection team member looks like matter? There will also be someone in the room to “help decrease bias“. Does that mean they are admitting there has been bias in past selections? Otherwise why would they need that kind of “help” now?

Wonder how or if recent events in the US (BLM and such) will impact Selections. Talk about a no-win situation for the selection team members. If a large portion of minorities is selected, reverse discrimination claims and if a large portion of minorities is not selected, perceived discrimination. Also wonder how those who are posting on Workplace and non work social media to show support (non-minorities) will be perceived during selections because most of selection members are of the silent non-racist ilk, and we all know they like to bring out their bias when it comes down to it.
The way i was told it works is as follows...The selection teams will have the percentage of each race/gender demographic that is represented by the company As a whole. Ex: if black men make up 6% of chevron/BU employees, 6% of the selection team will be black men. Etc etc
I was recently told 20% for HR
Legal and BCG had the idea? Figures. And here I thought HR was being innovative. That is the name of their so called transformation for whoever called it Next HR. They should call it Transfer since most of the “work” they do is being offshored to Philippines. Wonder what there reduction will be?
This is just a CYA from legal and BCG, don’t expect anything materially different from previous rounds.
During the VCA re-org in ABU we had these unbiased peers, etc.. This is just BCG copy and paste.
HR are not your friends. Dear individual contributors, HR exists to support management when dealing with you.
HR is useful but a company has to manage it properly. The tail is not supposed to wag the dog.
There is no company where the HR department is useful. All companies should outsource that function.
HR is useless. There is a lot of wood to be cut there. Every time I would ask for help on their own policies, nobody knew them. Instead I am always told to call the 1-800 benefit number and to talk to their 3rd party contractors as they know better. Honestly, they can cut HR and use the 1-800 reps.
Oh yeah, you can bet someone will be in the room to “help decrease bias“. Once the selection process starts using common sense bias and choosing the right people for the job, based on merit and performance, those other people in the room (Hint: HR) will be there to “help decrease bias” back toward political correctness and social engineering. Bank on it.
HR...Happy Rainbow. They will never be on your side. I personally have not trusted them a bit in my 20+ years. What I've found out though is that they will work hard to promote the rainbow across the company to plant and benefit from those relationships down the road. Have strong ties with SCM folks...like Very close!!!
But, they are too in scope and soon will learn their lesson.
HR = Human Remains.....don't expect anything great from this team. Remember they are not union representatives and have no skin in the game for protecting personnel. They are beholden to the company and sing the company song all day long. They are the kool-aid pushers, for those millennials that have no clue, remember second place is first loser.
It's nice to have all the colors of the rainbow flag on any team.
Yah, Please look very carefully at the Level 2 VPs under Geagea, you will be shocked how diverse they are!
Probably HR’s idea. They do such a great job with their own selections. What is happening with their Next HR or whatever it is called these days?
