To all the people that screwed me at CBS through the years (yes I will work for the company) and if you just got CUT, payback is a b–ch. You out.
Since two people mentioned this I want to shed some light:
I was told that once the office reopens that we will all be contacted and our personal property mailed back to us. Do I believe that? No I do not. I took home most of my stuff in February because I couldn't trust this trashbag company. The few things I still have in my office I assume will be thrown away (or outright stolen by my "teammates" who outlasted those of us who were canned).
Even though the job market right now is pretty bad, those of you who still remain at this company should start looking. They're laying off hundreds per month. PREPARE YOURSELF.
I’m a permalancer and I was laid off in this round with severance or benefits or anything, of course. HR has yet to contact me at all about how to get my things from the office.
The people on my team were wonderful and I take no issue with any of them. One of the managers was also let go and it was just us two. For whatever reason high up corporate thinks these teams can manage with only one person with the responsibilities of 2+ people, a bold move they’ll probably regret.
This is my second time being cut as a permalancer in a lay-off here. safe to say i will not be coming back this time.
Employees in NY received 90 days pay in lieu of a warning. It is by law due to the NYS Warn act. They also received severance based on their time.
This whole thing is a sinking ship. It is hitting all depts at all levels. From executives, news, creatives, engineers, technicians, on air talent, corporate etc. Unions that represent employees have been completely silent (from my personal experience pointing at IBEW guys). There’s is no logic on how they pick the people. Some are picked by managers some by position and salaries. Whoever is left are just staying quiet to not get axed and save their own jobs.
I believe with a change to cloud implementation, merger, and pandemic, I would guess that 50% of staff will not make it. There will be less of a need for most behind the scenes staff and any dept that has to do with servers or transmitting data.
What is absurd is that there are many people there are still getting paid for not doing a thing due to their job description. They are just sitting home collecting full pay. They should at the minimum protect these positions by a furlough instead of a complete termination. What is going to happen when things return to normal and these positions are needed?!?! Hiring new people to fill these positions violate collective bargaining agreements in depts that are union represented so we will have to wait and see.
The layoff period is open throughout September 30.
I hope they’re done with the layoffs.
when the broadcast center is sold hundreds will be axed
The earlier post about a Director being let go today is likely not correct based on the info. The Director might have TOLD you today. But they were likely let go yesterday with everyone else. Unless, anyone knows of HR calls that took place today?
Les: Don't merge CBS with Viacom, it won't work.
Sheri: I will want the merger because I am the queen.
Les: I tell you it won't work and both companies will suffer.
Moments later...
Les: You are accusing me for hugging and kissing some actresses and coworkers from way back in the 1980s? You kidding me?
Sheri: Now we can do the merger:). Queen stays the queen.
We work in entertainment, not making rockets so we all are not the smartest apples in the bunch:)
Replying to the prior commenter, you should be concerned for your job. You can barely string together a cohesive thought. Seriously, I can not understand one sentence of what you wrote. Did you really ask if the people laid off this week (many of which have their last day on Friday) have found new jobs yet? Why you ask that?
Hey does anyone know if any of these people have found new work yet. I would think they needs to pay rent and family costs and also that having been at CBS they would be A hit on the job market. Maybe they can help hire some of the other people who’s been let go. And then I neglected to look into what I didn’t that didn’t find out in my investigations, which is if they are providing outpatient services to help people work. And usually those places work, as, you gotta go in person to meet your counselor and do the homework to find the new job. But if you can’t do that it’s a problem. The COVID gone messed that up. So I’m aiming for more investigations and information as I feel, the next round, they may be coming on after me. You look at my aera, some Viacom folks doing the same work. So do they whack us? People saying there’s more to happen. Man that’s not the intelligence and insight and reports, that’s good to hear.
People be numb. All creative services NY so 12. 1 PR in NY. 50 in News. 20 in Sports. About 100 at O&Os. 3 Research NY. About 20 Programming. That be round 200 I could account for. Ya not got the EVP types Like at VIA itself because they got lookt after by the top notchers. So they took a scythe to mid management. Decades a service. So people workin at home how do they get they stuff from they office? Plants, files, picktures. And do people come to they house to get they computers? Also when you leaves usually you give up yo office so you gotta give up the keys to yo house?
Director ranks got decimated today - my director was booted after 20+ years with the company - the best mentor ever...
Good luck all.
They are not only cutting higher titles but lower titles as well and in the middle also. This time they are cutting everyone they can to recoup all the money they lost from spongebob bakish and sheri's decision making.
Although I am still with the company it saddens me to hear all this is going on. I worked with most of those executives that are being mentioned. Sad they have to do this because of bad decision making and the merger which was never a good idea but they still pushed to do it and now everyone suffers from it. Tiffany network was ruined by the Redstones.
Among those who have been notified today or last night are CBS Entertainment’s Gary Silver, EVP Business Affairs, Edy Mendoza, SVP Comedy Development; Jodi Roth, SVP Specials, Rosemary Tarquinio, SVP Current Programming and Michael Marks, VP Current Programs; as well as and CBS TV Studios’ Matt Skrobalak, SVP Talent & Casting, I have learned. All executives SVP and above have been at CBS for 14+ years. Additionally, Sean Hoagland, VP of Drama Development, CBS Entertainment, was laid off within the past couple of weeks.

Lots of VPs and Directors with several years cut that I have heard about.
Consultants played a big part in creating the list.
Managers were informed. No input was solicited.
10 years plus seemed to be the theme. This was about the $$
In NY, research department let go of two managers and one director yesterday. All were hired before Radha joined. The selection process is unclear. Don’t think it’s based only on years of service.
Of those scores laid off whose names I heard, virtually all were directors or above and all were long-time staffers. That means finance is running the company to get those salaries and benefits down.
As for Radha, among her printable nicknames are “the beast” and “Evilene”, and not just at CBS. She is now well-known in the business for being despicable. Leslie, Joe and Tony brought her in. Don’t know if any of them knew or cared about her abysmal reputation. Thought Viacom would have more class than to keep this abomination. Probably felt it was cheaper just to wait out the contract which ends in November 2020.
Are they offering severance packages?
To answer one of the below questions, my layoff went like this:
Got an early Wednesday morning email from HR to set up an "URGENT TIME SENSITIVE" Zoom call for that afternoon. And in that call, I was informed that I was being laid off ( and was told that my last day would be Friday). Everyone laid off in my department had the exact same scenario play out.
CBS Research (both coasts) used to be fantastic. Then, the company kicked Dave Poltrack upstairs and replaced him with Radha- a total nightmare. She talks a good game, kisses up magnificently, but terrorizes her people. She can't manage. She insists on micromanaging everything. Doesn't trust anyone to attend a meeting with a high level exec unless she is there. She has a drawer full of complaints at HR about her bullying people. No senior exec wants to work with her. They tolerate her at best. Yet this individual is allowed to stay while several good people, who could've taken her role without any of this baggage, were dismissed. Wake up Nevins.
News anchors and weatherman let go. https://www.latimes.com/entertainment-arts/business/story/2020-05-27/kcbs-anchors-jeff-michael-garth-kemp-sharon-tay-layoffs
Were the layoffs mostly higher level execs or did they get rid of assistants/coordinators too? Seems more like they cut based on people that had higher titles and long tenure in order to make the most impact with the least amount of causality.
Also, I highly doubt any job is "untouchable" at CBS. What makes you feel that way?
I used to work for CBS Research in Los Angeles. Learned a lot from that department. I am still with the company but kind of in a safe zone you can say untouchable. I'll just leave it at that.
CBS Creative Services NY entire staff was cut today. About 12 people
Chicago hit hard. 2008 all over again source rob feder

CBS NY Research is the department which handles all the ratings reported daily for all network broadcasts (all dayparts, News, Sports) as well as network and cable competitors. There is also CBS LA Research which reports some ratings oriented towards specific West Coast and program development needs, and is also heavily involved in new and existing program testing. LA Research lost one person today, NY lost three.
How are people being notified? Email, phone call, something else?
What is CBS NY Research?
I heard there were layoffs in sports. Anyone from sports get the axe?
