Thread regarding General Electric Co. layoffs

What I love about COVID and new normal working

I don't see HR tagging along and in every meeting with the CEO anymore. Maybe they got leaned away. Good Riddance.

Hey at least our HR has been useful. As a three shift site way behind on orders they are filling in as first responders, organizing food delivery to employees, cleaning up between covid segregated breaks. deep cleaning

GE HR does not support the employee or their development, they are there to protect the company only from discrimination law suits. You are on your own when it comes to HR support unless you are one of the "pretty people" in the OLMP or other corporate management development program.

My view is HR and your supervisor owns ALL of your idol time, other than on breaks if your hourly. If there isn't work in front of you pick up a broom, do some preventative maintenance, catch-up on online training, etc. Idol time should equal HR sanctioned write-ups!

I high level of productivity minimizes the need for too large of staff thus lowering GE's cost and maximizing it's chances for long-terms survival.

We have two HR employees at our site and we used to have just one. We had a major layoff and almost half of our employees are gone. Guess what? We still have two in HR. One is "working at home" and one stays on site for "Covid-19" reasons. They swap back and forth.

The new working normal means the guy who worked from home before covid most of the time and did his personal business on company time might actually be putting in a full day of work occasionally these days.

Why HR needed? This comes from comes red-blooded 60 y/o white male with a family.

Back in the day GE hiring was by friends and family. More white Italians (nothing wrong with Italians) begets more of the same. That's that not diversity.

So I agree HR should go away as long, a plant looks like the community and not extended family picnic on the 4th of July!

The above beings said I've ran into a few useless HR folks in my day.
