Thread regarding General Motors layoffs

We will not recover from this

Work from home is here to stay, as is online shopping. And what is the one thing those two don't require? Driving. Everywhere I look, studies are predicting that driving will decrease between 10 and 20 percent overall even after a vaccine for COVID-19 is developed. Do you have any idea how bad that is for the entire auto industry?

If you think layoffs were bad before, just wait until the true fallout of the "new normal" starts to hit...

People are ditching the airlines and starting to drive for family vacations.

No, looks like phase 3 starts Oct 1. We're physically going back to the grind.

The fact that RVs, kayaks, bikes, trailer packages, pools for at home, camping gear is a strong indicator that people are spending money, all Keeps Wranglers are sold, none available. GM trucks are in demand too, people are spending more time with family so that is a positive from this horrible negative. Places like Dunham's sporting goods stores the shelves are empty. In my opinion electric cars and trucks are not a priority for the majority of the buying public. In fact I feel as though they could care less, the tech is cool, but for the most part a lame duck in most people's eyes.

I'll wait too, considering I have seen a million cars on the road this summer alone. People are Traveling and spending money. Have to wait and see.

People use their cars for a lot more than commuting. Unless you live in a dense urban environment dropping your vehicle is not an option even if you're working from home 100% of the time. And, yes, people are taking more vacations by car this summer as air travel plummets.

RVs and trailers are actually selling extremely well right now. I think people are actually doing more vacation by car than in a metal tube surrounded by people right now.

Travel less does not mean less cars. Infact it may reduce less shared public transit or airplanes.
On cars. Uber or shared rides etc may effect. People will move from downtown core to suburban area. Cars will still required

Who's traveling under quarantine? I know my family is not, and not are my friends. The only travel I do now is to the grocery store and back, and sometimes skip that to get delivery at home.
