Many Layoffs, But Promoting Within

Ge has promoted two employees to Chief Diversity Officer and VP Chief Diversity Officer. They "will be responsible for setting and monitoring the company's diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) strategy, as well as partnering with leaders across the organization to improve results related to DEI. Additionally, they have responsibility for establishing and building relationships with communities and organizations that increase the availability of diverse talent within our long-term talent pipeline."

In 20+ years at GE I am still usually one of the only women in technical project meetings. Also noticed a surprising lack of black males in professional bands.

This is when you know the management and leadership have no clue as to what business they are in, what products they make and service. When you have no ideas, then gimmickry like diversity officers, etc., are what you are reduced to.

Back in 2017, GE had a goal of having 20,000 women in STEM roles by 2020. It wanted a 50:50 ratio of men to women. Well, it is 2020. Is the goal reached?

This will make the hiring process much easier. Instead of a resume, all you’ll have to send in is a selfie.

Please do not compromise your hiring standards to meet a GE Metric on diversity. Focus recruiting efforts and pay for talent with the skills we need.

We can only hope they do as good a job as those responsible for setting and monitoring the company's Integrity policy, as well as enforcing the company's "zero-tolerance" policy regarding a hostile work environment...

Can they start by removing the banners with Thomas Edison and the old timers in 273 and get some more diversity up there!!!

Excellent decision! Even if it requires laying off 5-6 Local 301 guys to create budget room for the promotions.
