Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

Best of the best ?

I just talked to a manager still working and they said they only kept the best of the best. ? They let go a older associates who worked over 30 years in the store ( how is that not the best to last that long in Corrupt store) they also said it came from a corporate level and store management had no input ( I don’t believe it) they was also instructed not to reach out to anyone who was let go. Give me your thoughts ?

In reply to who was laid off or those kept working, it’s to remain to be seen. Macy’s will save money if the veterans are let go.

It’s not a complicated concept, keep people who actually care about the company, who show up on time, people who you can call on their days off even though they are hourly with a problem and they can solve it remotely, people who provide great customer service despite what role they are in, people who understand how a business runs, people who CARE. Very hard to find those people they are one in thousand but they exist.

THIS IS A DYING SHIP! They want to make as much cash as they can BEFORE the ship sinks. BE GLAD they let you go. Collect your unemployment and find a reliable company.

Some favorites were not team friendly. They were very competitive and talked about the fear of losing their job.

They didn't keep the best of the best. They kept those that were management favorites & workers that got paid minimum wage. Sad they think cutting costs in keeping minimum wage workers will actually benefit them !?. When you let go of veterans they also lose knowledgeable workers with more product knowledge than the ones that have worked far less time. And I promise this decision will in fact impact their profits. Who in their right mind wants to shop in an environment where you can't get an answer to a question !?. Customers will take their businesses elsewhere. Kudos to Macy's for further k–ling their business.

I worked with some people that needed to be the best.

No, no, no people!!! The best of the best is some cooked up c-ap. They do that to make the ones who are there feel guilty and work themselves to a pulp. In other words, it's a mind game "don't forget it could have been you." I know how the system is, very very corrupt especially my store manager. My poor colleagues are running around like crazy with no end in sight because there is no help. When is this company going to just wave the flag like all the others that went belly up. People inside and outside are suffering. Look at all these daily posts on this forum. What does that say? People are traumatized after all the crazy they went through or is putting up with. All the best peeps!

Some of the people that may still be there competed with everything so that they could simply be told they were the best. And sometimes that is all they got.

b—s— store management had no say. Of course it was all their say. How could it be otherwise? When I was called, I was told that technically my position (I'm the only one in it) was not on the list of jobs to call back the first round, but she made the case that she needed me (didn't go though lol). And all the people who were brought back are the poor souls who bust their asses every day and are taken advantage of and treated like loyal dogs because of their work ethic. I will say though, in my store, some of the decisions I feel were bad. But in a lot of cases, they didn't bring back the lazy people with nasty attitudes, so it actually did sort of work. I hate to be a jerk, but sometimes the people who have been there decades (not saying all, and we brought back some of them because they really are good) are stubborn and feel that because of their years of service, they don't have to budge one inch away from the job they've always done. And that's why they're still home (and in some cases, hopefully will stay there).

"They was instructed" .... pretty much tells it all. Second post below is absolutely accurate.

I think they saying you are still here cause your the best of the best is a crock of sh–. They are only saying that because they’re trying to keep the store morale up by saying you’re the best!

Tenure is not the same as performing well. If you stay at a company for many years doing the exact same job; you probably do it well enough not to get fired (or leave). But do you show potential? Adaptability? Growth? Are you getting better every day? (Sorry, couldn’t resist) Obviously, I don’t know the person to whom you’re referring. I’m sure their experience is priceless and perhaps they do exemplify Macy’s. But bringing up tenure alone does not automatically equal the ‘best’. I think we all are great; but cuts had to be made. Stop asking ‘why me?’ and recognize ‘why NOT me?’

What criteria makes someone the best of the best compared to someone else. So during those 30 years that person was never good enough to keep their job now because someone else is better. During all those years there had to be something good or best that he or she did.
