Thread regarding Macy's Inc. layoffs

for those who had their positions eliminated!!!!

i wish everybody who had their position eliminated the best of luck. i hope that you find something better and more rewarding in the future. i know many who have left and there is a life after macys!!! i am a sales manager for about 10 years in a big metro area, and i have seen nothing but a decline in the company and low morale. look at the turn over rate from management down. I, myself, was in negotiations for a new position right before the pandemic hit. i know i must get out and hope that it will all come to fruition because now being a manager is WORSE. we have been back how many weeks and i have colleagues still suspended, i had to tell some my associates that their job was being eliminated and some did not receive the information from the company yet. i have seen other manager's jobs eliminated, even one who worked many hours during the pandemic to prep the store! can you imagine what slap in the face that was!!!! you can't reach HR and doing away with some form of HR in large stores was a big mistake, especially in large cities. AST is not helpful they are overwhelmed. merchandising teams and visual teams are upset they lost their managers and feel they are doing more work, as we all are. the company wants more work with less people. My friends in herald square said they did not lose many visual managers, mtm's and still have AST supervisors, but they are doing the work of two. communication is horrible and the company just wants you to figure it out. so, those of you who had their positions eliminated, you are probably better off in the long run! macys is a sinking ship. i know sales are not there and they are trying to plug the hole, but how long can they do it?? good luck!

“The department store is just a format that does not work anymore,” said Chris Kuiper, a CFRA Research stock analyst who tracks mall companies. “People don’t want to wade through a four-story megastore to find a couple of items. So instead of these anchors being a traffic generator, they became an anchor in a literal sense, dragging down these malls.”

well said!!!!!!!!!! if you can, take the package!!!!!!!! i have also witnessed many cuts and it just gets worse. so true about wanting less people and more work meaning-DOUBLE!!! this is not the most stable company and the percentage of people who are unhappy far out weighs the ones who are happy there. there is a reason so many people quit. it is not the most healthy working environment. and if you don't quit, you could have a position eliminated. i say this as a senior manager who is also looking to get out. there is not future at macy's.

There is life after Macys. Go out there and re-connect with yourself and those you love. I can attest to that. I gave over 20 years of blood, sweat and tears. Not to mention adealing with a TON of stress. Don't have to deal with that anymore. And yes, it IS scary being out of the workforce after so many years, but think of those left behind. I survived a LOT of cuts, and let me tell you, those left behind have to do DOUBLE THE WORK with HALF OR NO HELP in the expected time frame. I for one will not miss that. So grab that package and get your life back. And let the future take care of itself.

If given the option -grab the package and run !
There are plenty of others that will appreciate your talent.
Do yourselves a favor b4 your next adventure- research the company
1st-look at articles to see that they aren’t filing bankruptcy- last thing you want is to join then only to liquidate.
Sites like this offer info on other companies And Glassdoor has a great reviews section on all companies posted by current & former associates.

Look at those that have made it thru the crisis, big box , grocery - it may not be the “glamour “ at M , but I’m sure you wont walk into work each worrying if there is a bullseye on your back .
Having M on your resume carries a lot of respect - the industry knows the excellent talent that M has /had .

Stay 💪 , remember you’re not alone in this

Still waiting to go back as a sales manager. Heard they're changing names from sales managers to what? Also, is it worth going back, really torn!

How about working 30+ years showing up rain or shine, but people are numbers. There is zero assessment, you're just picked and discarded like garbage. The bottom line is money. Wish we knew then what we know now. All the best!

Right. Achievements, etc. mattered to old Macy’s when we had a future. And that way of operating was some time ago.

Well I know people who hit their goals and did well but they got let go. Reason ? It doesn’t matter who we get rid of if we are trying to cut the debt down to be sold off. That’s the goal. It just looks better on paper.

I worked at a store for over 20 years and was laid off. I made credit goal, sales goal and had great attendance throughout all of those years. Others who did not do as much were kept. What was the assessment and ranking method that was used to keep some and get rid of others?

Thank you!! I was a manager and from what I am hearing, I am glad my position was eliminated. It s—s to work at Macy's right now. I will find something else with a company that respects their employees.
