Thread regarding Allstate Corp. layoffs

How would you spend your 60 day notice?

Aside from taking earned PTO what would your normal "work day" look like if you your given your 60 day notice?

I’m continuing to work usual, and helping those of us who are left with any gaps in training.

Do what you need to do to maintain that current position in good faith. I know of a Tech that was let go twice from RIFs and was hired for the third time. I wonder if he would survive this RIF?

It's up to mgmt what happens in 60 day period. Some people have to transition/train others and some people get computer taken away right away but still get paid. If you feel you will be affected, I would get everything you need off your computer now. I've had friends that are told they can look for a new job in the 60 days, but with lost access to Allstate network, that is hard. Also, they lost access to 401K stuff, contacts, etc.

In past layoffs those that had jobs eliminated spent the first several weeks getting everything they were working on moved to those that were staying, by the the time they had about 30 days left managers had them help out here and there but they weren't working on anything of any importance, and the managers told them they needed to be at work and that they could work on their resume, do phone screen interviews while at work.

You can and will get fired and lose your severance if you do not do the job you are paid for.

Yes, save your PTO - you will get paid for it in addition to severance. During the 60 day notice look for a new job internally & externally. If you find one (kudos in these tough times) external it is better, keep your severance and be richer.

You should get paid for all unused PTO. Believe that’s the law.

Going to gym in hopes of working off stress of all of this.

If you have not used the PTO you have earned year to date you will get paid for it. If you used more PTO than earned year to date then that will be deducted from any severance that is offered. If no severance then you will essentially be billed for unearned PTO used.

Why in God’s name would anyone want to go back after this debacle?

I would continue to work because that is what you should do. You should never burn bridges because one day you may be able to go back if and when they have openings. That is just me though.
