Thread regarding Sabre Holdings layoffs

Better off being laid off maybe?

Was spared the recent wave of layoffs but since returning from furlough, can't help but feel that it would've been better to have been laid off.

It seems like all the work which was paused during the two months just accumulated, and guess what, no one did it during the two months we were gone... It was and still is a nightmare with the added workload of backlog and that arising out of the layoff of certain positions, with unrealistic expectations that one person can do the task of what used to be three. Poor planning in the name of $$$. Add the workload to unrealistic timelines and one can pretty soon lose his or her sanity any time soon esp among the lower ranks.

Anyone feeling the same?

There's nothing unethical about having another source of income. Its a very common practice in the US.

No different than what I saw everyday in the office. Person shopping for a house every day, all day long looking at houses online. Person going on vacation looking at flights, hotels, and everything else all day for weeks, cruise shopping, facebook, ebay, twitter, shoe shopping, blogs, you name it, it goes on all day everyday.

Lots of people have second jobs or incomes at Sabre. I know several people who do real estate or have rental houses. There are a couple guys with rental properties who are always doing construction on one or more houses and has to constantly go check on them. They probably make more in the side jobs than they do at Sabre. Face it, our jobs are pretty cushy - just check and follow up on email for the most part. Another guy ran a landscaping design job for years at Sabre. Then you have the Sabre dumpster divers who sell that stuff on eBay. Face it, this happens a lot.

I dont know anyone at Sabre doing the stuff described below like working second or third job or blowing off work entirely. I know my team and coworkers are working hard and delivering work. Sounds like BS, like troll BS to me.

But if you are doing that youre stealing and treating the people you work with like c-ap. And if youre just coasting and barely showing up then youre not much better. Dont know how you look yourselves in the mirror or your teammates in the eye. must be really proud of yourselves (sarcasm). I dont care how you rationalize it. Its theft. Welfare at work. If you had real integrity you'd leave and go work somewhere else. There are people here with integrity who care about the people they work with and are trying to get the company to a better place. But probably this is all nonsense made up by unhappy or bored people just to stir up noise.

My group works hard for Sabre, we continued out projects throughout the furloughs and our coworkers returned, we're moving forward as if they were never gone. No one is taking advantage of working remotely, anyone pretending to work harm's everyone. Taking a salary without working is theft.

There is a lot of people I known at Sabre they have side jobs, selling real estate and through out the day they using 90% of the time to do the second job or also others that have a side side job doing consulting and the managers look the other way..if you can get away you will because is just how unethical is everything around there..

My manager is tiling his house as we speak lol! Yeah, he's goofing off and so are we, his reports. Not all the time, but we sorta have an understanding that if something important comes up, we'll handle it. Until then we all cover for each other. Sales are kinda slow right now anyway.

What about Managers who fake work because they have a business they’re managing? Follow up emails occur after hours or in the weeee hours of the morning. And now that everybody works from home, it’s easy to get away with it. And, they rely on their direct reports to pick up the slack.

when staff "fake they are working" is not the staff's fault. it't the manager's fault. managers are paid to oversee the work their staff produce.

I can believe people would fake-work (or don't work at all). There are multiple reasons for this (real personal problems, low morale, low ethics etc). I will not judge. But it's Sabre's management who own this. Management are seriously clueless around here.

Leech off Sabre for 15 more years and you should have that house paid off.

Why stop at not working just 1 job? If you are being paid when you aren't working then why not get 9 more jobs and don't work those either?

You could be pulling in 10x the salary for the same lack of work.

Leech.

BTW, I don't believe you're real.

I'm getting married soon, have a new house I'm still organizing and don't have a lot of time for work right now. It's unfortunate but it is what it is. I'm doing well to keep an eye on email and texts.

Expect the usual. Upper management doing everything they can to kiss *ss and using their employees without any kind of promotions or salary raises, but way more responsibilities.

It's not as if my salary has been increased, so I will not be doing the work of 2-3 employees. I'll do my fair share with all quality and ethics, but my manager will have to solve the problem of lower productivity because he has less employees. Not my problem to solve. My kids expect me back home at 5.

Nobody in India was furloughed. Didn't they get anything done? ... Hahaha! Expect all dev in Dallas to end. Offshore is cheaper, even if they do nothing, because biz can't tell the difference.

You will probably assigned different tasks. Speak to your Manager (new). Everyone is affected.

I am not surprised that the work that needed to be done before the furlough still needed to be done after it too. It's not like the Sabre furlough fairies were going to do all the work while everyone was on furlough! The people who weren't on furlough were just trying to keep the lights on, anything else was just gravy!
