Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Chevron has more posts on poor management, diversity and age Issues then other oil company layoff sites. Why?

All of these issues come into play in the layoff process.

@8del why would a retiree read layoff sites, do you know any who do? all of the retirees that I know are happily working in their garden, on the boat, or doing volunteer work. most, if not all, don't even do social media at all. where are you getting this information?

Whoever posted about HR being window dressing is absolutely right. Most of their managers, who I have been on leadership teams with, are useless yes men and women who rely on their lower PSG underlings to do any of the real work.

Responding to OP, the underlying reason is that CVX uses the HR function as window-dressing instead of leveraging the HR function to support strategy. HR at CVX is long on programs and short on strategic results- by design.

Just words or not, Chevron management discusses it and is concerned about it...other companies are not discussing. Is Chevron successful if addressing discrimination/ diversity issues? Who knows, but there is an effort. Should Chevron just say FU employees, now get to work, like some other companies. Chevron’s return on investment is not bad in it’s sector and some of that is it’s a good place to work. Your mileage may be different.

You people are mo–ns. It’s Chevron’s entitled employees that are the biggest problem, not the management. Scrolling throughout Chevron’s threads and looking at the questions posted during the employee townhalls you can see that Chevron’s employees are completely self-entitled and think the company owes them a job, a paycheck, a CIP bonus, an equal voice in the strategic direction of the company, and personal fulfillment in their work. This is a BUSINESS people not a democracy. You all are Costs of doing business to the organization, NOT assets like you all think you are. Assets generate cash, employees cost money! Chevron’s employees should post their resumes at the US Post Office since they continue to insist on all their entitlements. The problem is that most of them are under qualified. Chevron’s Management is just a huge manifestation of its entitled employees that have progressed their careers in a work culture that starts every morning off by singing Kume-Bah-Yah. As long as Chevron insists on giving its employees a voice in this process working there will be a complete nightmare.

Management talked diversity and respect for employees but they were only words. Most managers supported employees that played the game of acknowledging employees that did little work but socialized continuously. Hard working introverts were disrespected extroverts were promoted for playing the game.

Me too. I put in 31 years with this company. The first half of my career was rewarding and I was proud to have worked and contributed. The second half of my career was demoralizing, but I stuck around for the money and benefits that is hard to beat. But, I gave up working to my highest standards because accountability was non existent. Why bust your hind quarters when the effort was no longer appreciated. I EOI’ed in 2016 and left with a 1 year bonus check for a severance. I guess there is a God that rewarded my efforts in the end. Today my retirement is enjoyable. I hope the best of you still there at work find happy endings if it’s in the cards that you must leave.

Well because is a pretty eeFFED up company and ask me how I know. I work for these id–ts. Only thing I like about it is the paycheck and I work at 20% my capacity and still run circles around these id–ts. I hope to retire here b before I get fat, lazy and stupid.
