Thread regarding Belk layoffs

Store Managers, what do they do exactly?

I’m curious what do store managers do exactly? I see my store manager eating, chilling in the office, takin a stroll around the store maybe once or twice a day, then leaves around 6 like clockwork everyday, they never work weekends, never close, take days off almost every other week, if Belk is concerned about saving money, why pay someone like this $100,000 a year or more, what a waste of funds.

I worked a Belk Southpark as a gift wrapper when I was in my late 20s, it would have been 1984-1988.

John Belk would go crazy if he knew store managers were making 6 figures and not working past 6 or on weekends. he famously told a store manager that if the employees had to clean the bathroom, so did she, of course that was back in the late 80s. times have changed since then and not for the better. I miss the belk of the “golden age” back in the 80s to late 1990s, it was such a great place to work, and all us ladies were like sisters, so so sad to see that type of work culture vanish.

I’ve wondered that too. we had a store manager who said her job was to “execute” and “assign tasks”, they fired her after less than a year.

Our manager works every saturday and hardly ever takes time off. He tries to do the right thing.
