COBRA STRIKES!

Looks like a lot of still 'furloughed' longtime employees who are not back at the opened stores are receiving letters about health insurance going away this month nd they should take COBRA at over $700 a month. No word by company or store manager if they are going back or not. maybe letter is the big kiss=off??

Blames the virus on the firings. Great excuse for a failing retail co.

they are bringing over employees from other stores nearby to work. While the store’s own booksellers remain furloughed

May be new owners , but it’s the same old BN BS ! They Lie to you, lead you on & then act like they knew nothing.

I was called back, only to see my hours cut in half.
I'm making a fraction of what i did when i was furloughed.

Did you expect unemployment indefinitely?!
You should lucky you got extra when you did and be grateful you have a job !

The first class butt-kissers from other stores were brought in and others were let go, namely those employees who demanded respect and fair treatment.
I demanded fair treatment. was told there was nothing they could do. It wasn’t me. My position was eliminated. And, they hired new part timers .

I doubt they hired "new" people. My guess is that they just shuffled some folks around. The first class butt-kissers from other stores were brought in and others were let go, namely those employees who demanded respect and fair treatment.

I'm a childrens lead that was furloughed. When the store initially reopened I was told there weren't hours for me yet, however when I called the store a couple weeks after that to check why I had been kicked out of dayforce, a new employee answered the phone. Nice that they are hiring new people without bringing back furloughed employees. I guess we should learn not to expect them to be ethical

Dear EX Children’s Lead,
After what they did in 2018 at did you e you really surprised? Did you expect them to be ethical ?!

The ones that weren't called back are actually making more money
via unemployment bonus.

Couldn’t agree more with previous post .
Barnes’ customer service is terrible now. The minimal amount of employees and they now act like customers don’t matter. Bad move.

I check out these pages because I have friends who worked and still work for BN.

Went into BN yesterday asked about a book, there were only 3 booksellers. One in back, one in office, one cashier. Cashier called someone to help me . After 8-9 minutes they came out & while I asked about the book , the phone rang and they answered it & looked up a book for the caller. I said I’ve been waiting. I’ll be with you in a minute, was the response as he answered the caller’s questions.
This is the terrible customer service that’s now the norm. Only 3 employees to run a store to save money and losing money for not providing basic minimal service. I left. Ordered from Amazon.

Most of the stores reopened at the end of May or in June. If you haven’t heard back. You’re fired. If they keep putting you off: will call you back, you’re fired.

There was no virus two years ago when they purged most of the full-time employees.
Yes there’s a virus but are using it to their advantage to get rid of certain people. BNN should have flourished during this pandemic. With curbside pick up customers can get tons of books to read while they were home. But they didn’t. They went to Amazon because they delivered in a timely manner.

The virus was/is a huge blow, to not just B&N, but every retailer & restaurant.
How do you not get that?
