Has anyone else heard these rumors ? I heard it from 3 different sources in the last couple weeks that there is a good possibility the entire Schdy plant is shutting down this year and they are going to move the Rnw Energy folks to Niskayuna. No idea if its true just weird heard it from multiple people.

My department just got told to start packing for the move to Niskayuna once we are back in office, we are in Renewable Energy in 53. We should be moving by end of year.
When I get laid off again for the 3rd time I am going to panhandle out side of the gate in Schenectady. With a big sign saying I WAS A T RATE & NOW UNEMPLOYED AGAIN SPARE CHANGE HELPS. The other sign I hold up is going to read DO NOT BUY ANYTHING WITH GE LOGO ON IT. IT WAS PROBLEY MADE BY A BUM LIKE ME.
Pop snap t rates out Da door again
@6emr+15PuHIE6 Copy Paste verbiage from said e-mail. If not, then you're just a troll.
I just got an email that is similar to this rumor, Schenectady plant closing moving all Renewables to Niskayuna. everything else going overseas.
Such a shame. Everything that us old timers did to create a legacy and all of you are the ones who destroyed it. Too bad none of you were strong enough to carry the load. Too many participation trophies and not enough a– beatings when you were younger made you all too weak.
They are closing our legacy and 273 in a year from October. The plant closing payout will be $20k for t rates and $80k for d rates and not a dam thing anyone can do about it.
Let me guess rumors of shutting down 273 again. Layoffs 25-30% by years end some now and some in October 2020 the rest by December. All those T’s that came back from layoffs are wishing they didn’t. And yes covid has a small part in the timing but the major issue is the junk we make here in 273 is baking produced over seas closer to the customers. The demand for the junk we make has bottomed out. Renewables is what everyone wants these days
Hey d*^b asses. Demand for turbines was fallen off the cliff, period.
The parasitic union will lose money. Poor union.
As a former GE now retired several years i can remember when ge was great and. Building 273 was a wonder to see in the 70’s. I can remember when gas turbine moved to Greenville. My question is what is still made in 273. I know lstg is gone but what is left .i remember the days f the G-3. And made many trips to schenectady over the years. It is a crime what the so called management did to this company. And to this country
My T rate boat trailer broke down on 890 infront of GE. Will a D Rate help a soon to be unemployed union brother out?
Here are 2 realistic theory’s for this thread-
A). The new plant manager is smoke and mirrors that’s when they decide to shut it down. They just throw out new plant manager term to confuse everyone and to keep us busy and To Try To Work Untill the big layoff. So get ready for the plant closing cash $30k before tax!
B). The new plant manager comes in and raises more chaos and confusion. And will be the fall guy like Nate McCormick was. Stuff is about to go down like a ton of bricks here at 273. They say we have lots of work Coming next year. IT Is highly doubtFull because if it was true they would not lay people off.
Or eric excuse me
Erin anderson is the name I'm hearing
https://dailygazette.com/article/2020/07/09/schenectady-da-former-employee-admits-theft-from-ge-took-47k-on-corporate-card
ain't rumors. soon all of GE will be shut down. just a matter of time before the out of business signs are put up. not enough cash, greedy executives taking care of themselves, what else could you ask for you? Thanks Jack for creating the culture that lacks integrity, doesn't care about the customer, its employees or the communities in which it works. all praise the mighty stock price that has fallen from $60 to where it is now while the executives have made millions.
And now a NEW plant manager, that will not just run Schenectady, but Poland and another site as well! The real drama never ends at GE!!
There are D rates at 273 that started like 3 months before the T rate switchover. It's a thing
Oh boy here we go with the d rates are better than the t rates bs only reason you're a d rate is because you started a year sooner than the t rates that doesnt make you better than anyone and trust me when the next layoff comes 200 people or more you d rates wint be safe and that doesnt include ge shipping work over seas so keep thinking your gravy train is safe because I assure you, you arent. As far as use t rates itll be much easier for us to find jobs that put us closer to our rates now
To Don it’s very true those big GE dreams of living the GE free ride are coming to an end. Big cuts coming very soon like last time this time it’s worse. So save those OT Penny’s
The union will fight for all d Rates we made the union tons of money over the many years. The T Rates not so much they cost the union tons of money on fighting for all you looser t rates who almost got fired day in and day out. About 75% of the T Rates came from poverty wages then doubled their salary and still cried. The t Rates cried and moaned day in and day out working side by side along someone making $10 more an hour for the same work. Now the t Rates are doing more work in fear of loosing their jobs again. I feel sorry for those who came back with smiles of joy and achievement. Well I’m sure there will be a nice sized cut coming once connection rings are out of work like last layoff. I’m also sure of a big cut to the t Rates once the stack pit is empty like last layoff. There will be more d Rates in the bar shop more than the bar shop has seen in 9 years. Get ready for the big unenjoyable bumping game and watch those t rate get bumped out the door to their previous jobs making close to half of their current salary.
At this point in time the union is weak and useless and couldnt pull the crust out of your grandpa's underwear let alone stop ge from closing down the plant
The union will not let them shut down Schenectady this is where it all started. The company will never shut down 273 and ruin the history here. In Unity We As One The 301 Must Walk And Get Things Back That We Deserve. Or Walk At The Unemployment Line Once Again. I am leaning on the unemployment ride once again for the final milking of the company.
Look at the plant managers trend battery plants job codes and short history. Then look at 273’s Newer job codes and look around here it’s starting to slow down. Stack pit next to nothing for work, connection rings out of work in 2 months. People standing around doing nothing. See you in the bread line
I've said it before when he came to the battery plant and shut that down, stan is the mariano Rivera of general electric wont be much longer
Ge schdy is a dumpster fire that's no lie most areas only have work until september of this year and the multimillion dollar form and even handle hot weather and hasnt worked in 2 days. This place will not last much longer without any justifiable reason to stay open. And for all those that dont think Europe can produce our products. Keep dreaming the company is way ahead of the union they wouldnt have already put in a transfer of work if they didnt know it could be done. Furthermore none of us here know what's going on in poland for that matter.
The wind people have been working from home since march, fully proving the dont need to be paid as much or provided a work space. Gonna save thousands!! As far as 273 work, SBL’s and all Turbine work for Europe customers will be built in Europe after 2020, its already been announced het most living in a dream can not except it! 301 leadership for the last 15 yrs has helped GE downsize, sometimes not knowing it, but always looking out for leadership while the membership has suffered and will continue to do so!!
Renewables is busting at the seams in Schenectady. 53 is packed with people. Largest Renewables presence ever on the campus.
Schenectady is set to become much smaller but not shutdown. Renewable's will be out of there soon. Also quite a few of Power. Aviation Engine repair from UK will move in during 2021.
Guys let’s not kid ourself when posting on here. You know damn well this place isn’t closing. Come on there isn’t a GE that can make SPL. Stop the nonsense and face reality may be a lay-off but this place won’t close. We have work in 2022. Who will do that work please don’t say Europe cause nobody is even qualified. They can’t even make bats come guys. This message is all truth. Why come on this site and post b—s—.
As for the rumors, I've always been hearing the same rumor in one form or another for years. I believe there is a "common sense truth" to it simply because it's an easy guess/assumption to make. I believe GE will shutdown as much of Schenectady as it possibly can. I doubt the whole place will ever be closed up but I can see most, if not all of manufacturing being shutdown over time. I can see mostly white collar/paper pushing jobs remaining. It will more than likely be allowed to become obsolete and that will prevent it from being competitive. The only thing expanding in Schenectady is stupidity, dependency, and the daily cost to function. All things that prevent the longevity of a successful business plan. Since it has always been slowly increasing for a long time, GE will probably slowly shutdown Schenectady until things level out and become stable enough to maintain. I believe they have already been doing this for several years now. If GE can find a big enough blame to point at that isn't connected to them, such as Covid-19 then it might be very possible that the plant could be shutdown by the end of this year as you stated. Only time will tell if any of us are right.
I do not work in 273 and am not a D Rate. Nobody cares that you have been with GE for 100 years. Try having a normal conversation instead of just ignorant.
As usual, another big mouth talking about a legacy they never built. The D-Rates that can save 273 are all retired and aren't coming back. Anybody with 25 years or less at GE never went through hard times at GE or life in general and that's where true grit and strength come from. You don't get it through osmosis because you once worked next to a true D-Rate for a few years when you were wet behind the ears. You've confused the legacy that was handed to you as one that you built, simply because there is nobody more senior around to you to call you out and keep you inline. Clearly somebody with a large collection of participation trophies. Stop fooling yourself that D-Rates were picked from a supreme hierarchy. It's the same group of chuckle nuts that the T-Rates came from. It was just relabeled to create the division it has obviously done. There are plenty of high school drop outs and GED holders among the current D-Rates just like the T-Rates. Keep up the entertaining show because it'll be fun watching the realization come across your face when it hits you. None are so blind as those who refuse to see.
Fill in the blanks- Rumors are like (blank) everyone has one! But it would not surprise me if they shut down 273 or close to it. Just look at the trend GE forced and let go all the experienced engineers and managers. Then hired a bunch of clueless snot nosed collage grads who have no clue. Here is just one Example Papa told union worker to do a job and put bars in the oven. Papa instructed the union member to use plastic clamps. Well an Oven and Plastic clamps to me does not sound good in directions. It Just shows you it wouldn’t surprise me If we are all out of a job soon. The quality of the products we make in 273 are more sc-ap metal than useful service parts. It boils down to the people the company hired not all but most T Rates came from jobs making $11 hr. They got hired by GE and now they all think they are engineers for NASA. Most T Rates think they should have the golden ticket like us D Rates. Some T Rates are happy to be making $25 an hr and making more junk than useful parts. T Rates are the first to go back to their old job if it’s still available once all the joy$ of GE run dry. Do not count on the union to save your job or to find you meaningful employment. The D Rates will Step Up And Save 273 One Again.
I heard that last week , all of us in Wind are going to the GRC in 3 months.
Anything is possible, they will do whatever it takes to save money and have us off payroll by january, talking to a buddy of mine last night I hear stack pit only has enough work to last til september as well as hand tape
